"You can't wear that tomorrow."
Brennan paused in her meticulous examination of her old Wonder Woman costume, laid out on her side of the bed. Booth gave her a pointed stare from over the top of his magazine, back propped against the headboard.
"Why not? I have gotten some very positive comments on this costume in the past. I fail to see why I should change it."
"Bo-ones," Booth sighed, drawing her name out in two long syllables. Brennan straightened and raised an inquisitive eyebrow; when Booth used that tone he usually wanted something from her, things that mostly culminated in their-what did he call it?-doing the horizontal tango.
"Booth, is this one of your setups where you try and seduce me into having sex with you?" Brennan had told Booth many times before that if he ever wanted to engage in intercourse (or, as she'd secretly started calling it in her head-making love), all he had to do was ask. Booth had snorted into the bouquet of daffodils he'd been holding at the time and muttered something along the lines of where's the romance? before promptly continuing to ignore her request.
It seemed though, that this time Brennan was incorrect.
"No! Bones, you can't just-Look," he sighed again, and slid out of the bed and moved to stand behind her. She tensed at first, the easy contact still new and slightly unfamiliar from all those months of separation, but quickly relaxed into Booth's warm touch. He rested his chin on her shoulder, and even though she couldn't see his face, Brennan just knew the kind of look he was giving the red and blue costume still spread on top of the bed.
"I don't understand," she said, voice considerably softer, confused, "I thought you liked it. We're Wonder Woman and Clark Kent."
He shifted, and she shivered when a warm puff of breath skimmed the shell of her ear, "Bones, baby, look, I did-I do. But you're pregnant now, with my-our kid. I just don't feel comfortable with other smucks looking at you like they're definitely gonna do if you dress up in that tomorrow."
"You know I could still severely injure anyone who tried," Brennan said in way of reply. Her voice was still a little miffed, but she couldn't help the small smile that stole across her face.
Booth laughed, low and right next to her ear, before splaying both hands across her still flat belly, "That's my Wonder Woman."
