Because I have been an arse and gone for a long, long ass time, I would like to clarify that I am a-ok! Just busy and hectic and a bunch of things all at once, but just fine. I apologize to those I worried, I truly feel dickish about that, and was not aware that people had noticed the absense so much. I am not really, well, used to being any kind of online presence.
I am sloooowly catching up on things, but have given up on catching up on all my commenting. Its not feasable, freaking me out, and I have come to the conclusion that being absent even longer because I am too intimidated to catch up is silly.
In apology, here's a thing inspired by Justbolt's summarizing a bunch of fic ideas she had a while ago. I'll do that eventually too, but in the meantime, here's something I've done before.
Pick one, and I'll give you a bit of it. I have started writing none of these, but I want to share and make sure I don't forget them. Some will be writ, some may never be.
1.) War's over.
Megatron is dead, Optimus and a percentage of his crew are MIA, and likely hiding. Shockwave, back on Cybertron, has reached a sort of truce with the neutrals. Turns out there are far, far more of them flung out over the universe than either side realized, and they are sick to hell of the war, and just want to go home. Shockwave still being on Cybertron and the largest power there, was the one they approached. Shockwave, being logical and wanting the best for his people, agreed to the truce. It turns out the neutral factions heavily outweigh either side, many times over.
Cons for the most part have gone along with Shockwave, begrudgingly, happily, or otherwise. There's a few objectors, but most are smart enough to realise this is a best case scenario as they are going to get. They're still Cybertron's military defence, or whatever other jobs they are suited for.
With the Bots, some followed suit, surrendered, and were treated with the same amnisty as the cons. If they refused, they were captured and put under a con or neutrals watch to be rehabilitated back into society. Which is where Optimus being in hiding comes in. He still wants his people to be free, despite that not working for millions of years. The neutrals just want peace, however they can get it. They don't want anyone hurt, but they wanted to come home, and they wanted an end to the fighting.
Depending on frame type and abilities, caught Bots are put into manual labour, specialized tasks, or whatever works for them best. But some of the youngest bots, made in the midst of war, don't have that. Some do, but some do not, nor the bulk and strength for manual labour jobs. These bots are granted to certain cons to keep them occupied and not out causing trouble and releasing pent up energy negatively. Not any con can get a companion though. They're extensively interviewed to see if they are a suitable caretaker. No one likely to be abusive can have one. Forced intimacy is a no no, as is humiliating or otherwise degrading them beyond simple punishment for misbehaviour.
Thundercracker applies, passes, and requests an airframe. He's still a seeker, and picky. Well, too bad for him, there were not many airframe bots. Closest he can get, appearance wise, is a wing styled spoiler.
TC gets Hot Rod.
2.)Little friends for shuttles.
TFA verse for this one. Waaaaay before the war, you still had Autobots and Decepticons, obviously, but they were on friendlier terms. Shuttles fell under Decepticons, since they weren't really manual labour like bots, and tended to be used for space fairing, or manning remote posts. Due to size and fuel demands from their large forms and general function, they usually had to man these posts alone, which was unfortunate as they did get quite lonely. To improve efficiency and moral, some autobot scientists devised smaller 'friends' for them. Much smaller than average, fuel efficient, unable to transform, as this wasn't really a necessity, cute, and good company. Mentally, think of them as being on par somewhere between a very, very clever crow and a cat. They were still bipedal, and looked like a Cybertronian, but not programmed with the same level of intelligence. Pets, basically.
Personality varied, but no matter what they were like, they were programmed to need physical affection. Sleeping on a lap, getting pet, talked to, played with. Even the more aloof of them would come up rubbing up and nipping and grabbing for acknowledgement eventually, and they tended to bond well with whoever took care of them. They worked like a charm. Moral went up, shuttles were happy and better able to concentrate, etc. A little demand for them popped up on other planets too. They were cute, and programmed to seek affection, after all.
As tensioned increased, pets stopped being created. Having one was something of a status symbol, and older, higher ranking cons often leant them to soldiers stationed alone. War came out, and it was only the older, very high ranking that had them at all. Megatron's superiors might have had one, but he'd only have heard of them.
Decepticons eventually get banished, but now there's an energon shortage. After a bit of debate, the pet frames type is modified to be a little larger, transform, and given more plating to be more protective. These are going to be people afterall, not companion animals. And that was so long ago the bulk of the autobot population doesn't even know they existed, and the population is now so xenophobic, its not like any scout class is ever going to come across the forebearers of their frame type anyway. No biggy.
Except that there are still cybertronians who departed from either faction who can profit from the demand for pets from both Decepticons looking to make themselves look important, and other wealthy parties that wouldn't mind an animal guarenteed to want their love and affection.
And there are certain businesses that have learned to turn a tidy profit from black market modifications.
3.) TFA Combaticons
Nothing solid here, just random shorter story ideas and relationship dynamics.
Brawl and Swindle are Bots who were made shortly after, or at the tail end of the last war. They knew about cons, but probably didn't see much of them, if any. Neither are happy being Autobots, and find a way off planet to seek livlihoods elsewhere. Swindle has Brawl hired on as muscle and is looking to find a way to expand his clientel and get him traveling in wider circles. He's got good people skills, and this is something that attracts Onslaught.
Onslaught, Blast Off, and Vortex are all former cons who left when things just looked bleak and frankly finished. Tired of being in hiding, they ditched their faction and went off to be mercenaries. Problem is, while they are all good at their jobs and Onslaught is a good tactician, he's got no real communication skills or ability to charm. He and Swindle hear of each other, and join up. Both have what the other wants.
In terms of relations- Onslaught gets on alright with pretty much everyone, but has a shorter fuse for Vortex. He and Swindle often disagree on business, but Swindle is valuable enough to keep, and Onslaught considers him a valuable resource worth protecting. Which leads him to get aggravated with Vortex, who would like to get under Swindle's plating when he's not irritated with him bitching at him about squandering resources and souring connections with clients. Swindle, for his part, is not fond of Onslaught, but gets on with him, enjoys Blast Off's company, tolerates to is companionable with Brawl, and loathes Vortex, who he finds slimey and generally creepy. Blast Off is old friend's with Vortex and Onslaught, though he gets frustated with both, tolerates Brawl, and enjoys talking to Swindle, who shares many of his tastes for finer things. Brawl just wants to get drunk and have fun and punch things, so he likes everyone.
TLDR: Shenanigans with occasional bouts of seriousness and conflict.
4.) Refusal
Inspired by both Peacewish and Anon Decepticon's excellent fics dealing with the same.
Soundwave has been downed in battle. Ravage quietly gets the attention of Blaster, and takes him to the body. Frenzy and Buzzsaw, still inside but alive and unconscious, are retracted and taken in as POWs, as is Rumble, who passed out on the field at the time of death. Lazerbeak and Ravage leave when Megatron flees the battle. Both are older frame types, that can survive without a carrier. (Have not decided on if I will include Ratbat yet). They know their 'siblings' cannot, and so have left them to Blaster, in hopes that he will take them in.
Neither Ratchet nor Blaster are comfortable leaving the slowly deteriorating cassettes in the brig, and under certain conditions from Red Alert and Prowl, are allowed to release them to Blaster's personal watch. The modifications designed for mining mechs that made Frenzy and Rumble stronger than their size would indicate, as well as the actual pile drivers and drills, are removed. Buzzsaw had no such modifications, but is a quieter sort of mech anyway. He finds himself dealing with the situation the best, and being the one to coerce Frenzy (and Rumble to agree that it is best for his twin) into docking inside Blaster as his level out his beserker programming. Buzzsaw, in a show of support, docks too, but Rumble refuses. He will not go. He survivies through his twin, sharing the connection that way, but its not enough, and they both know it, as does Blaster. Docking does not require bonding, though there is a certain amount of sharing involved. Physical contact between carrier and cassette helps in a similar manner, and Blaster can still provide Rumble with that, but he vehementally refuses all help.
Blaster is left with a lot of difficult decisions. (Has not been written, as I don't know where I am going with it.)
That's it for now. Go nuts!
