I've found I do well with reward systems... until I give up on them. I'm currently working with one: I can watch an episode of TV for every practice qual I complete. But I did 2.5 quals today and am quickly tiring of them, even though I'm several days behind in my studying.
My other one (i did before, but then started having allergy issues which screwed everything up), which I am going to start when I get back to school is I only get to eat dessert on days where I accomplish my workout goal. Today I ran 8 miles, I got a piece of ice cream cake for that, etc. It also encourages me to work out in the mornings because I can't eat dessert until after I've worked out. But it's hard to stick to this when I'm at home, my mom pretty much forced me to eat her homemade strawberry ice (even though I had some the night before) and I feel like if I don't eat dessert when my family does they'll think something is wrong with me. No, just trying not to gain the pound I usually do when I go home. Also, I just found out diabetes does in fact run in my family (just not among any of the relatives I know) so I'm going to try to be more careful with what I eat (trying to switch fruit for vegetables, fewer desserts, cutting back on random things with added sugar, like cereal)
Also a new goal for Atlanta: smile and say hello to people I see when I'm running. I love that people do that here in the Wisconsin suburbs, and if there is something I like, I should bring it with me. I need to smile more in general, and hopefully this will help.
