Fever dreams

Nov 04, 2005 10:04

Last night, after I got home from running all my errands (including a quick stop to pick up something from a friend at 9, thereby missing CSI and ER), I was too cold for words.  I shut all the windows, put on my flannel jammies, wrapped a flannel robe around my legs, and took my temperature.  I knew I'd had a fever all day, I was too cold and achy, huddled around the space heater.  The gland on the right side of my neck is swollen to the point of extreme pain just for moving too quickly.  My fever last night was up at 102.5.  I wondered if that was because I was under the covers, so I lay on top and took my temperature again, and it was still 102.5.  For me, that's high.  Like, take her to the hospital soon high.  I was shivery and achy, and could barely swallow.  It was one of the few times in my life that I wished I'd had some sort of suction, like at the dentist's office.  I tried to drink my theraflu, but it was so hard to swallow that I only managed about a quarter of it before I passed out while watching an episode of The Wire on HBO.

I woke up at 4am to the credits of some movie, parched and achy, but feeling like I was sweating to death.  I'm not sure how I fell back asleep, and the water I tried to drink made me want to throw up.

Managed to make it into the not-quite-temp-job-from-hell (just boring) after sleeping too late.  My temperature was down to 99.7, which is what it started out at yesterday.  I've got some cold medicine, and cough drops to soothe my swollen gland (that aren't really working, it hurts!  But I'm cold and achy and shivery again, huddled up against the space heater, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see how the day goes. . .I get worried when I have a high fever, because I dehydrate so fast.

Maybe I'll just go home early. . .
Follow-up: As of right now, about 3:25, my fever is back up to 101.3, and it's getting harder to swallow. I've been banished from work, and sent to the doctor by a family friend, and will be firmly ensconsed on Ellie's couch sometime around 6. She's promised to make soup without things I'll need to chew, and some tea concoction with honey, lemon, and rum in it. I'm actually really worried that it's worse than I thought it was, and am hoping they can give me a liquid antibiotic, as a pill is SO not going to happen.
