I hate the higher ground. I woke up at 8am this morning and went to the DMV to get my license replaced/renewed. I waited for half an hour, which is not bad by DMV standards, for them to call my number. But when they called me to an "empty" window, someone was still there and I had to wait for another fifteen minutes while I watched people who had gotten there after me got out ahead of me since they were being called to actually free windows. Nonetheless, I did not lose it at anyone even when they made me take a new picture, was in fact very nice to everybody since it's really not their fault.

Then I took my dog on a walk at around ten. A block from home, I let him off the leash since he likes to run the last block home. He instantly ran into the street and almost ran into this lady's car. Note, he almost ran into her. She was backing up and had he kept running, he would have t-boned her car. She did not have to break for him. Nonetheless, she stopped and yelled at me for about three minutes about how irresponsible I was for letting him off the leash, how she hoped it didn't transfer over into my care of children, and how stupid I was for not being aware of the leash laws. I was very polite to her throughout all of this and mainly focused on the dog. When she finished her tirade, I got up from crouching beside my dog on the sidewalk and walked three steps. After three steps, one of our other neighbors started yelling at me from across the street. He too wanted to talk to me about how irresponsible and stupid I was, but he also wanted to add that he was trying to have the dog taken away from us before we "maimed him". Direct quote. Again, I was very polite even though both of their bitchy fuckin' self righteous power plays had nothing to do with concern for me or my dog. And I have the higher ground, which ultimately is little comfort.

All in all, not loving being home. Not gonna lie. I hate the holiday season enough already without having people intentionally making me miserable. It's bad times when you curl up on your thirteen year old sister's lap to cry. On the plus side, my mother made me very delicious hot chocolate. She's also going to finish my christmas shopping for me, which is fabulous. And I'll get to see the extended family tomorrow, which will be lovely. Just need to breathe.
