ye olde culture shocke

I feel like a Japan-medium cardigan wrapped around America-medium (e.g. Japan-large) undershirts and limbs.
Incidentally this is what I've been wearing for the past two weeks, plus/minus pants

Notes
cardigan = OUTSIDE JAPANESE FORCES
under-layers = INNER AMERICAN STIRRINS
pants = HALF-JAPANESE LIMINAL EXISTINS

But... are there any fixins?

Ok! ::claps hands, decisively::

What's your address? Care package time! Care for some soul jams? Some Cormac McCarthy? Maybe some peanut butter?

my address is in a locked post a couple posts back, in August sometime.

I have done some investigating and found some passable P.B., so no need to have that weigh you down. but I would LOVE any Cormac or your recommended soul jams.

do youuu want anything?

PMS. but I refuse to believe this.

dude. i blame EVERYTHING on pms.

Christmas music in Japanese department stores, starting at 8AM on November 1st.

isn't this horrible?!?! this past weekend, they showed how the grinch stole christmas on tbs. IT'S TOO EARLY FOR THE GRINCH. it's not supposed to happen until AFTER thanksgiving! i need these next two weeks to prepare for the onslaught of christmas-y things!

PMS doesn't usually wack out my moods, unless birth control makes me into a hormonal nutbar. so I try to not think of it, and in general it isn't much of an issue or an excuse for my behavior.
still a shit deal for females, though, to be sure.

doesn't tbs show 'a christmas story' on a 48-hour loop or something? are they upping that to 96 hours or anything this year?

wow that music video is pretty bad. all i know of japanese media is the (probably) most bizarro stuff that gets youtube'd, but it seems like they have a lot of pop culture that's over-the-top forced-cute color-explosion OH SHI- so hard that it's no longer cute, but just kind of scary. like the cute thing is going to snap and Fuckin' Cut Ya. i don't know, how much does actual japan live up to its american stereotype? coversely, is there an exaggerated american stereotype there? do they have a japanese youtube that is all jerry springer and mtv's "super sweet 16," and DUDE WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH AMERICA??? not that somthing isn't wrong.

PS i like some cutesey japanese music, but i'm not sure anyone over there is into it.

capital-c Cuteness is pretty prevalent; there's already a fair amount of western anthropological/sociological investigations into It, or at least what's become of it since the economy started back up after WWII devastation. I can't put my finger on it exactly--cuteness is definitely a huge driving factor in consumption and marketing of pretty much ANY kind of product, but it extends even through to crazy cuuuute cartoons in place of icons on street construction warning signs, for example. but overall... I feel like though I *do* see girls (and sometimes my students) dressed like those video GYARURU all the time in the city, but it's more just a stereotype on the end of replacing people with the dominant consumer culture. then again, I've seen brawny male gym teachers wearing hello kitty sandals, so... yeah sometimes it does like I'm in an alternate KYOOT UNIVERSE ( ... )

my playlist there is kind of sparse at the moment. i've got ~40 songs that are just My Favorites Evar. the HOORAY! list is only like 5, ok... i'm adding some sunnychar to that list now, though! a friend of mine is in a bunch of bands and shit. i always try to convince him to cover "mr holiday," but so far he keeps wussing out.

i've tried to use last.fm recommendations to find more MUSICSZ, but so far the things it's recommended haven't been quite the same. most of the music i like i stumbled across randomly because i liked the band name or they had a funny song name. i mean, hi, MUMMY THE PEEPSHOW. what? that is awesome. my favorite Adorable Japanese Band, and probably one of my favorites IN TOTAL ON ALL OF THE EARTH, is corniche camomile. their albums are like 10 years old, which totally blows my mind, because they have a pretty modern kind of sound. it also makes me sad because i spent high school listening to CRASS and CONFLICT when i could have been listening to corniche effin' camomile.

OH GOD I'VE WASTED MY YOUTH!

thanks to internet resources, I'm pretty set for watching the shows. GLORY BE. I mostly just miss having great TV-commentary companions who fully understand how crazy Tyra is, you know? but fourfour (particularly this) is a great substitute, for now.

the internet/wikipedia (it feels strange how internet is basically just youtube, wikipedia, and google searches for me now) also says that SELENA did a Spanish cover of "Sukiyaki"?

girl you cryin' so much you gotta look up when you walk so those tears don't fall!!
