Wow... it has been a long long time...
I suppose I've been busy...
so quick recap: the apartment is nice, but really too expensive for us. The deal with our friend isn't working out like she had hoped, so we are reworking it... which will leave us out of a lot of planned on money. That means we won't be able to pay off our credit cards before we move, and Thomas is more actively thinking about the second job thing.
He needs to go to the doctor though. A coworker's friend is a doctor, saw him, did a quick test, and suspects something, but I don't want to really talk about it unless/until there is an actual diagnosis... but with Thomas not really knowing his schedule from one day to the next, it is hard for him to set up an appointment.
two separate friend couples are going through hard times/divorce. One: thomas and I went to their wedding... they seemed almost fairy tale like... and it was at their wedding that Thomas said was the sort of definitive moment that let him know that yes, I am the one. The other: good friends, whose relationship, while different from my own, always seems to suit them and function very well. It is a bit sad to see my friends go through this pain. These people are my peers, and while I have certainly known people who are divorced or going through divorces, they were always older couples, friends of parents, parents of friends... and not my peers, certainly not someone whose wedding I had attended. I'm not even in the situation, and it all seems a little unreal to me.
I asked to cut my hours a bit at Curves, b/c I was feeling overwhelmed with school, and I still am sort of, but not so much, I think... plus, now with the financial crunch.. maybe those extra 2 or 3 hours a week would make a difference. The cut in hours goes from Curves paying the car payment in full every month to, well.... not.
Speaking of curves. I still really like it... the workout and the working atmosphere. Although I've plateaued in my own weight loss... but I also eat more crap and refined sugars duing school... so it is probably as much what I am putting is, and not working out like I should. At least I'm not gaining loads of weight and I still am keeping up some level of exercise. It's better than nothing.
Do you guys think I could be a flight attendant, or work at an airlines desk, if such positions are open where ever we end up moving... just trying to keep the job prospects open...
This upcoming week will be incredibly busy... so I picked a great time to update!
Tonight is a meeting at Curves. Upside: I get paid to sit there and go over new policies, and chat a little. Downside... it starts as soon after 7 as the closer at the other club can get there... so 7.20-7.30 if we are lucky. Also... we tend to gab a bit, plus, Lisa said that tonight's meeting is extra important for updated procedures and new training... so it will probably be 2 hours, easy... That means at least 2-3 hours that I won't be able to pretend to study... We'll also miss Heros, but at least that is viewable online.
Tuesday: doctor's appointment. Just a womanly thing, but necessary. Switching to my GP, for convenience sake, plus she takes my insurance, the PP clinic I went to before didn't work with insurance. Downside: GP only does annuals on certain days at certain times, all of which conflicted with either a TA class, a regular class or office hours/possibly reg. class. I opted for the conflict with regular, pass-fail class. That won't be too fun, as I dont' like missing class, but better to miss that than class with advisor. I've already told the prof., and he was cool with it.
Also good that I didn't schedule it for TA class time, as they have a test tomorrow... not bad on me, till after the test, when I will have 45 (+?) tests to grade.
Wednesday is Afternoon of Slavic Vampires... fun! Just keep fingers crossed that they don't mess with Thomas' truck schedule, and he is able to come!
Thursday: leaving after afternoon class [you know, the one I'm missing on Tuesday] to drive to Memphis. Thomas, Hyoung-Sup and I will drive up there for the SCMLA conference. Hyoung-Sup is the chair, and I am presenting at a panel at 9am on Friday. It will be interesting!
Friday: SCMLA *whew!* Then hopefully going to Rhodes to drop in on one of Sasha's classes, and hopefully seeing some other friends
Saturday: Still in Memphis, hopefully I'll see some more people, and thomas and i'll reminice about when we were dating, and I hope to get some papers graded and homework finished!
We will probably leave late evening to drive to Texarkana, where we will stay the night, so we don't have quite as far to drive on Sunday.
Sunday: drive, drive, drive
The past week or so, when our schedules permit, Thomas and I have been riding together to work/school - he'll drop me off and pick me up. It has been really nice for me to not mess with the bus, and gives us some time together, sans too many distractions. We will also, sometimes, have breakfast together at McDonald's. I know its not the greatest for us, but their coffee is phenomanal, and it is also some special time.
This weekend, I made bread and shortbread. Bread: trusty recipe from Joy of Cooking. Shortbread: new adventure from the Hillbilly Housewife. Both turned out well... I got a really nice rise on the bread - I wasn't too impatient, although the nice rise meant that the seam burst, but, oh well... still tasty! The shortbread was a little less sweet than I expected, but then again, the recipe didn't call for sugar to be sprinkled on top, like there is on store-bought shortbread. Plus, Thomas liked it! I ate so much of it yesterday will studying... in fact, I divied up that last four pieces for our lunches today! eep! We did manage to go through almost an entire loaf of the bread over the weekend, including our sandwiches for today... it was the end of the loaf, so to get decent sandwich pieces, I had to cut the next loaf, but the rest of the first one, well, a piece went to supplement his lunch, and the others will be good as snacks. If we keep eating bread at this rate, perhaps a weekly baking session is in store. I'm not sure how much less or more expensive it is to bake it, but I really do enjoy baking bread, and it tastes so yummy. I need to get wheatgerm and soy flour, though, to add to make it slightly more nutritional. The shortbread was easy enough that I could probably do that on a T/Th when I get home a bit earlier.
ok, that's all folks!
