So, went to see Rammstein last night. Had no idea who the supporting band were going to be, but turns out they were Combichrist who's music I'd never heard.
Paul described it well by saying they're a mix of Rammstein and Prodigy and they were pretty damn good. Really odd setup, 2 drummers, 1 keyboard player and the lead singer. Not a guitar or bass in sight. Singer had no real stage presence and was overshadowed by the rest of the band, even though they were fixed in place. The drummers were crazy, one in particular kept throwing and kicking his drum kit all over the place (causing roadies to have to keep running on and rebuilding it!) and throwing drumsticks everywhere. Not bad performance, may look at some of their stuff.
Rammstein on the other hand just blew me away. From start to finish their show was just amazing. I won't describe it all in detail, suffice to say the stagecraft was amazing, more explosions and fire than your average bonfire night and a totally crazy band. The keyboard player being particularly crazy, from doing a random jig across the stage, to spending half the show playing keyboards on a treadmill and at one point getting in a rubber dingy and crowd surfing!
At one point a "fan" got on stage and the band took flame throwers to him and set him alight. Hilariously funny as it fooled me for like 0.1 seconds :)
Wish I'd actually bothered to check that they'd got a new album out before I went. Alot of the stuff they played was from their new album which meant I didn't know it. On one hand hearing new stuff live was great, on the other hand you tend to go to concerts to hear stuff you know done live. Still, they played all their biggie's and the atmosphere was just amazing.
Oh, and the advice I got to dress light was well taken. The heat from the stage was intense, even though we were near the back! You could feel the heat from every burst of flame, god knows what it was like at the front...
If you get the chance to go, would recommend it. In London today, then around the world and back in the UK later in the year.
