Last Friday, one of the Credit Control women came down to ask us a question. While here, she told us about a complaint call she had recieved from a customer. The customer claimed that she wished to lodge a complaint because her photocopier swore at her. This, of course, made the credit controler scratch her head in puzzlement, but she soon got to the bottom of the mystery.
The photocopier in question is one of the newer models and has copy/print/fax capability. With the fax, it remembers the number you put in and keeps trying if your fax doesn't go through the first time. The customer had put in the phone number to fax to, and it was someone's direct extension. The machine made several fax attempts before the recipient finally picked up the phone and yelled "Fuck you!" which came through on the customer's end causing her to think her machine had an attitude problem. :)
In short, it's not a terrible feature for a machine to be able to receive voice from the other end of line, in case such situations arise... but it does help if the recipient makes a comment the *first* time the machine attempts to send the fax. :)
