Hello folks!
Well, I figured I best get off my tail and get this posted before it gets much later into 2007. :)
Yet again, "Furst Night" was a great success despite the rain. Twenty local furs turned out to enjoy the events and festivities of Pittsburgh’s First Night Celebration.
After a quick dinner at Arby’s and everyone showed up who we were expecting, we discussed the night’s planned events and when and where to meet to pick up vouchers for the comedy troupe “Amish Monkeys” and the “Pittsburgh Symphony Chamber Orchestra” performance. We then mentioned the possibility of calling it a night at 10pm and heading back to the “Fox & Unicorn Inn” early because of the rain. It was decided to meet again at the Wood Street T station and make a decision based on the weather and everyone’s spirits then.
That important information conveyed, the group split up into three and went about enjoying the features which appealed most to them.
There was some confusion prior to the orchestra performance and again after we all got together again at 10pm, but with a bit more communication things got worked out. A few folks left to go home, four others left to get something to eat, I left with four furs to open up The Inn and get the snacks and drinks set out and ready for when the remainder of the group arrived after the final drum circle activity of the night.
We had thirteen out of the 20 continue the festivities back at The Inn where we served cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, chips, cookies and soft drinks. We watched the ball drop in Time’s Square on TV and then toasted in the New Year with a bottle or two of sparkling cider.
The evening settled down after that. Folks continued to enjoy the light refreshments as they sat, talked and caught up with friends and their holidays. By 1am, we wished Jason and Kim a good night and a safe trip home and the rest of us began to look for places to crash.
The following morning folks awoke slowly but there was plenty of muffins, cinnamon rolls, coffee, tea and juice so that no one was left out. The socialization continued as if it had never stopped from the night before. Sil and I served up some hot dogs hot off the grill along with the left over snacks before seeing all our friends off for home around 2pm.
It’s great to see this event continue to enjoy a small growth year after year. Pittsburgh’s First Night has always appealed to us as an inexpensive way to enjoy New Year’s Eve and the culture and arts of the region. It’s made all the more special by having so many of our furry friends around to join in the revelry and fun. Thanks to everyone for joining us and making the gathering a success. We hope you had fun also and we’ll see you again throughout the year!
*Hugs*
