Astrono Furs Mini Star Party @ MFF

Just a heads up for anyone who's going to MFF. I'm planning on hosting an hour long Mini Star party at MFF on Friday night from 8pm to 9pm local time (GMT -6:00). Alternate day is Saturday at the same times.

NOAA is forecasting partly cloudy skies for both Friday night and Saturday with temperatures below freezing. I cut the length of time back to an hour due to the temperatures.

I'm just going to keep it simple like I did at Morphicon in May. Show folks who stop by for a peek a little Urban Astronomy and what they can see with an inexpensive set of binoculars. I've raided Heaven's Above and put together a one page, front and back, hand out with the Sky Chart for Friday night at 8pm, a listing of ISS passes and Iridium Flares for the entire weekend, along with some notes, definitions, factoids and links.

I'll be highlighting Mars, Luna and Plieades as easy picks under heavily light polluted urban skies. We'll be doing binocular viewing with 7x35 and 7x50 binoculars, handheld, and our 15x70's mounted on our light tripod.

There just wasn't enough room to pack along our 80mm f/6 with the GEM mount but I'll send out the request again, if anyone in the community is attending MFF and can bring along their "grab n' go" scope it would sure add a boost to our observing power.

I hope to see a few of you at the con.

Clear, dark skies!
