okay, so my time in chicago went by very fast, so lets see if i can manage to remember everything.
saturday, i get to the airport sometime between "way too early" and i-should-still-be-in-bed-o'clock. took me about 5 minutes to get through security, that's with the exception of crazy lady who destroyed my luggage because she thought she saw a knife in the x ray. grr. clothes are not metal, and the knife shaped things on my pants....are plactic, so those didn't show up either. she just got lucky.
quick flight to atlanta. got popeye's chicken, which, btw isn't that great. then a two hour flight to chi town. this plane was a bit....um...cramped. smaller. less leg room. the sun was comming straight through the window from just making it over the clouds. BUT i was sitting next to a pretty cute girl. she was reading something. couldn't make out what it was. but i could tell it was something.....victorian era or so. (keep this in mind, because we'll touch on this later) and it kind of seemed familiar. but whatever. i sleep. ge to chicago, and spend about 20 minutes running around like a moron lookin for colin. finally we find each other and get on our way past the spaggetti warehouse and a white castle on our way to his house. that night was pretty laid back. met his marents, had some hamberger helper (mmmmm) and played some guitar hero. got back in the groove there, woot.
sunday. we get up around one, and go to the train station. well, we can't read apparently, so we missed the train to chicago, from here out reffered to as "chi town". we sit around for another hour and get on the next one. finally we arrive in chicago at about 4:30-5:00. we walk down the street to millenium park and the "Taste of Chicago" thing. i took loads of pictures. we bought the tickets and got ribs and water and cheesecake. lots of bums were looking for free tickets. being from savannah we've become programmed to just say no. but one of them gave me a tee shirt for some reason. well, saved me $20 having to buy a chi town shirt.
we then explored the rest of millenium park. the cloud gate aka giant magic bean was cool. all chrome and awesome. then the wierd bridge thing and spider-web park dealy. yeh we sucked at finding the actual names of these things. so we go back to the train station. and again, we can't read, so we wait another hour and get back to colin's house. where we play guitar hero 2 straight through. took 5 hours. fun.
monday. we went to woodfield mall. one of america's biggest. really it was about as big as international mall, and most of the stores were......well........the normal places i don't care about. but some were awesome. there was an art place with an original alex ross painting. (i drooled a little bit.) and a lot of old disney film cells. we were going to meet alissa, but no dice. the rest of the day we ran around looking for transformers. good times. AND we got bubble tea from some asian coffee house. NIIIIIIIIICE. watermelon. mmm. we wasted the night away watching mythbusters.
tuesday. was tv video game day. we did nothing. just discovery channel all day. man vs wild, mythbusters, a little drake and josh on nick, but whatever. thatnight we played war of the monsters and 2 player GTA San Andreas. we destroyed pretty much everything. jusmping cars off cliffs. and cashing 747s. having cops jump on our heads. lol. yay.
wednesday i finally meet one of colin's friends. we spent the day repeating tuesday, but at around 6 we called ryan, colin's best buddy and went to see transformers. he had already seen it 3 times. this would be my second. he's a lot like myself, but reminded me for my friend frankie. because damn he was hyper. love that guy, ryan. didn't get to see him again though.
anyway, he pointed out small things about the movie that are now inside jokes. only evil hologram people have mustaches, except for sector 7 guy. flipping your mom's bike is "awesome", and you can't pick up his phone and call your fam. lol. that movie really is quoteable. but the thing that got me, was the donut interrogation scene. the continuity errors were insane. so we wound up driving around, and found what looked like an exact replica of the "Fresh Prince" house.
thursday. small voyages around town. wallgreens and the like. nothing too special. BUT, we ended up taking a road trip over to lockport to meet alissa at a coffe shop for improv night. now THAT was an adventure.
the plan, arive at 8. the actual happenings? we passed the well, hidden left turn about a half hour before we enter joliet, where i realise we're a few towns away from where we want to be. we call alissa who guides us back. it takes about 25 minutes to get to the turn we need to make, only, we can't find the turn. so we spend another 15 minutes looking for this place. finally, we make an estimated guess, and there's a sign, wrong side of the road, behind a bush, and tottaly inconspicous, telling us "this is what you've been looking for". well, great. then we drive about 10 minutes down this wooded road, avoiding large, dead racoons. and find the coffee house. i, alissa, colin, and alissa's sister sat aorund ouside for a bit. talking and smoking and whatever teenagers do these days. and go inside, get some coffee, which alissa bought for colin and i all sneaky-like. shame, shame. well, the improv going on upstairs was EXCELENT. honestly couldn't get enough of it. i want a place down here now. so this went on for about 3 hours and alissa had to take her sis home. :( so we parted ways. made it back to scaumberg (colin's town) pretty quickly and stopped at white castle. it was like 3 in the morning. but i was hungry and hadn't had white castle in years. we got a crave case, lasted the whole day. tasty.
friday was an interesting day. we slept pretty late. played GTA for a while and formulated our evil plan for the night. we went to see harry potter at 7:30. then we snuck into live free or die hard. and then transformers again.
all the movies were great, i suggest them to you all. we didn't get to his house again until around 3. we got more white castle first, of course.
saturday. we actually read the train schedules correctly and get to chicago at around 3 in the afternoon. walk all the way back past millenium park and quickly scope the art institute. then it was off to an art festival down the road. it was enjoyable. saw some great things. one person made....what i can only describe as very scary portraits. just, creepy lighting. like willem dafoe's portrait in the spiderman movies. after that we jump back on the train, go back to colin's place and spend, litterally, all night playing guitar hero 2. i pack my things back up and at 6:30 we take off for the airport. no problem getting through security here. nobody was crazy or anything. get on the plain, and i'm supposed to have a window seat but someone's in my seat. two things here, one, i don't really care if i have the window seat if i can still just look out it, which i could. 2 there was a cute girl in my seat, so i didn't say anything. anyway, she says my ipod case was cool. we talk for about....10 seconds. eh, nothing good can last i guess. well, the plane pulls out, rolls up to the runway and the "we're having a slight problem with the computers, we're just going to roll back over to the terminal and reset the computers. shouldn't take more than a few minutes." well, for the next two hours i finish the last chapter of harry potter 6, listen to some andrew wk, talk to cute girl some more, about how rediculus sitting in a plane currently in "off" mode was and then i try to sleep. not going to happen i learned very quickly. so i instead, people watch. cute girl decides to read, she pulls out Pride and Prejudice. i look at it, look at the girl again, the book, the girl. she says she started reading it on her way up to chicago from new orleans. well, imaging my suprise, as cue girl #2 is actually cute girl #1 from the first part of my journey, but with drastically different hair now.
we take off at exactly the moment i should be landing in atlanta. this means i only have 1 hour ot find my way through the maze that is the atl airport. i manage. perfect timing. grab some food. eat get on plane, take off.
and now i'm home again, already getting yelled at. well, it happens i guess.
