Zero and Peter's Apartment, LA, Tuesday Evening

Zero certainly hadn't set the oven on fire making chocolate chip cookies. She wasn't Twitch. She could cook. So the kitchen filled with smoke and fire extinguisher stuff and the beeping fire alarm and Zero running around pulling her hair and freaking out and shouting into

Peter walked into the apartment after a brief patrol to hear beeping and shouting. And there was smoke. He rushed to the kitchen and asked, "Is everything okay?"

[swerval_zero]

"Yes!" Zero said, looking somewhat like a teal deer caught in the headlights--or, you know, a monologue. "Everything's okay, everything's fine, why wouldn't everything be okay?"

At least part of the answer was that Zero usually said 'swerval' instead of 'okay.' The rest was all around them.

"The noise, the smell of smoke, you being freaked out," Peter said. "Those kind of imply that things might not be completely okay."

[swerval_zero]

"Special effects!" Zero lied.

[peter__parker]

"I completely believe that because it's absolutely believable," Peter said.

[swerval_zero]

"Yeh, I thought so, too," Zero agreed. "Um. Thecookiescaughtfire How was your day?"

[peter__parker]

"Well, it wasn't a batch of flaming cookies, so I guess I can't complain," Peter said.

[swerval_zero]

"I'll clean it up!" Zero promised.

[peter__parker]

"And I'll help you do that," Peter said. "But for now, take a seat and calm down. The fire's out. The apartment's still standing. Everything's fine."

[swerval_zero]

"I SET IT ON FIRE."

[peter__parker]

"And then you put it out," Peter said. "It could have been worse."

[swerval_zero]

Zero flailed, for lo, she was Zero. "THERE WAS FIRE. IN OUR HOME."

[peter__parker]

"Key word there is 'was,'" Peter pointed out. "Have a seat, I'll get you a glass of water."

Zero sat down. In the middle of the floor.

[peter__parker]

Peter still got the water and brought it to her. "Look, you're not hurt at all. That's the important thing."

[swerval_zero]

"The stove is hurt," Zero mumbled. "'n Twitch'll laugh and laugh."
