Parking Lot by Causeway, Saturday Afternoon

Even though it was just a short trip to Arlington, Zero had stocked Dave with snacks, a cooler full of drinks, and entertainment--such as 'Teach Yourself Guitar' and 'Drumming Made Easy.' Now all she needed was the band.

Dear squall, she hoped the band showed up.

Parker showed up right on time as soon as she could get out of Gun Club, chugging Evian and looking unnerved. "We've got everything, right?"

Zero nodded, then amended, "Well, I'm waitin' for some big strong boy to load the drum kit because I'm but little, but other'n that, I think we're good."

"I got Anders to promise he'd be here. And Jack isn't flaking out yet." Parker sat on the tailgate and drummed her fingers on the door. "Can you believe this is the last one?"

"Me neither." Parker pouted into her bottle, then sighed. "We had a good long run. And had a lot of fun. But still."

Something occurred to Zero. "What happens to Dave? We're not gonna sell her, are we?"

Parker paused with the bottle half-way to her mouth. "*I* can't keep him. I'll be in Europe." She took a sip of water, and looked ruminative. "She's paid for," she said warily.

Zero kind of...hugged Dave's hood. "Can I keep her? Can I?"

Parker sighed. "If you park her and change her oil and don't let her get ticketed more than once a year... You think you're ready for the responsibility? Hmm?"

"Yes! Yes, I'll be good," Zero promised. "I won't let her run out of gas or anything."

"Then congratulations. It's a van." Parker sighed at Dave. "She kind of smells, but then, all baby pets do."

"She's bigger'n most," Zero said. "Kinda like a baby elephant."
