Sometimes, a birthday is just a day. Sometimes it is a time to reflect on how we have lived our lives over the prior years and decide what we can do better. Sometimes birthdays come without anyone noticing. Sometimes they are busy and full. Sometimes birthdays are special.
Last night found me surrounded by friends out on the town. This morning I woke to a visit from family, a bouquet of flowers, a lovely delivery from Amazon, and many phone calls and visits throughout the day. Tonight I was again surrounded with friends.
This birthday served to remind me how lucky I am to have so many wonderful people in my life. Flying from Ohio, stopping by early to leave a surprise, sending greetings and gifts- they are all fantastic and I appreciate each effort immensely. Mostly though, I'll remember walking around chatting (in person or on the phone), dancing wildly, listening to a story intently, laughing passionately, loving deeply and feeling deeply loved.
So after a day of things given to me, I give this to you.
This is why I like you: Because I am happy when I am with you. Because we can sit around and talk and laugh and act silly and its ok. Because you noticed when my smile dimmed a little- and cared enough to ask why. Because you listened when I told you more about why than you probably wanted to hear. Because you are funny, smart, and fun to be with. But mostly, above all else, I like you because you are you. And when a you is as wonderful as you are, how could I not like you?
Thanks to all those you's that made today a wonderful day. Good night, you.
