I fully support your su_herald modding decisions, even if that means I don't make the list. I write a lot of Spike in a dress fic, except it's more like Buffy in a dress, or actually, Buffy in pants kicking ass and being emo. But still, I have total Snow love.
I love su_herald but I would not want the job of editor in a million years.
This what to post, what not to post issue is an interesting one to me. For a long time, I had assumed that the herald had some sort of screening process. And then there were the posts that said you could comment if you'd written something that wasn't included (which makes sense because the mods can only read so much in a day). But then that lets anything and everything get on the list.
The quality issue, however, is a touchy one. One reader's treasure, is another reader's nightmare. There's so many issues - slash vs. het; pairings; AUs; and more. I don't envy you and your fellow mods. Good luck with this.
Quality. Yes ... I absolutely agree. What *I* like is not always what everyone else wants to read, and working on the herald has made me read out of my pairings and off of my flist, which is a good thing.
I'm going to go back to the way I started this and be much more selective. If I miss/don't rec something that say, Sue or Cat like? They always have the choice of putting on their posts, you know?
Spike is sired by Angel, or Xander wears a dress, or a chipped!Spike is the initiative's pet/love slave/personal toy, or James cries as David fucks him because omg!itissoperfect!!111!!! But what if the fic had ALL of that? Best fic ever!
I need to lose about 40 lbs, start walking again. Get back to where I was before the 'net took over my life.
