this is how it works: you're young until you're not

Aug 29, 2006 00:14

5.5 months. 22 weeks. 154 days. 3696 hours. 221760 minutes. 13305600 seconds.
Approximately, that is how long i have been away. I spent a small portion of that time living, a large portion merely existing, and a portion that i really cannot measure trying to figure out the difference between the two and wishing/trying to do the former more than the latter.

13305600 SECONDS (the important stuff):
- I performed at Battle of the Bands and i played
a) "Lay Lady Lay" - Bob Dylan
b) "Moshi Moshi" - Brand New
c) "Say Yes" - Elliott Smith
I did not win but i did not deserve to. I had an amazing time and it was wonderful and i felt brave and my throat was dry.
- I went to prom and it was fun but it was not memorable. It felt like a semi-formal. I will tell you this, though - it was nice seeing everyone dressed up. After that, i went to Wasaga for prom weekend and that weekend was horrible horrible and i felt so lonely and confused and sad.
- I chose to go to Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. It is beautiful and 2.5 hours away and beautiful.
- I made the above decision on the residence registration deadline & there were no postal services that would mail the stuff the day of (except Puralator for $500) so i left school and took the subway downtown and hopped on a bus and got to Kingston by myself. I was late by 10 minutes, but they still took it. It was the biggest adventure ever. All by myself. Me! Before that, i didn't even know what 'northbound' and 'southbound' meant. I had never been on a subway alone. I proved my mom wrong, except that she cried when i got home at night.
- I was chosen valedictorian of my graduating class. And i wrote a speech and read it at our commencement. And people clapped and stood up and i felt so nice nice nice and nervous.
- My parents bought a new house. They are moving at the end of September - I won't be here anymore. So, i guess i will experience firsthand whether you can come home again.
- This summer, i worked for my dad. He needed a lot of help with his store and i am in charge of "internet sales" which is a fancy name i made up to put on a resume.
- I was placed in an all-girls residence, which was not what i wanted but i have accepted it and i hope to embrace it.
- I have developed an addiction to Facebook.
- It was my birthday on the seventeenth and i turned eighteen which means that i can rent and star in porn movies (although i have little interest in doing either). i received such nice gifts - more than i could ever have asked for. And i went to Yuk Yuks and laughed and ate cake and yawned the night away.
- I went camping and swimming and played Cranium (although i really don't like it) and rediscovered Boggle and ate and laughed and cried and thought thought thought about everything everything everything - how it was, how it is, and especially how it will be.
- And i never came up with any answers except maybe about religion.
- Today i went to take my G1 test and i failed the rules part. Which makes me an idiot. But at least, after two years, i finally made an effort to write it.

The countdown is on. I have 5 days until i move to the city of Kings to attend the university of Queens (i always liked that). I don't know what to say or think. Before i know it, it will be September 3rd, 2006 and i will sleep in a brand new bed and i may never see my house again and when i come home it will be to a strange house.

Have i missed anything? (Except all of you.)
(Pictures later, maybe.)
