So, apparently I suck at the flute. Go figure.

My primary consolation at the moment though is to constantly remind myself that one of the (MANY) reasons I decided not to tack on a performance degree is that I do not do not do NOT want a metal tube and my abilitly to play it to determine my success and/or happiness in life. It's just a flute. I like playing it and all, but... it's just a flute. And when I'm applying for a teaching job, I highly doubt anyone is going to look at what band I was in first semester of my junior year of college.

I think what a lot of music ed majors realize when they get to college is that playing your instrument is fun, but conducting and teaching are more fun (or at least as fun)! Like I said, I love playing flute and all, but if I could choose between an hour of teaching kids and an hour of playing my flute, I'd choose the former any day.

So I guess it all works out. Plus Pete is an amazing conductor and teacher and I'm very glad to get the opportunity to work with him rather than spend my entire college career playing under Caneva.

It's just kind of a kicker to have 10 (yes... TEN) freshmen swoop into the studio out of nowhere and take everyones spots in the top bands and orchestra. Here's to hoping that a certain Symph I flute section leader will scare all those freshmen into quitting band...
