Notes: DAX and ZEX are a ton of fun to write. Which is strange, because the other twenty million times I tried to write ZEX fic, I couldn't get a handle on his voice at allThis all was written in a day. I'm quite stunned that I got it all down so easily... but the banter seemed to write itself

Hee! Hee! Hee! It comes so naturally between the characters. XD (Well, except poor VIP, but she's mostly there to be annoying the anyVUX character, bigoted and creatively violent.) I'm not too surprised that DAX is a mother hen, though-- someone has to keep ZEX from poking an eye out, playing with those big mean critters he keeps bringing home. >: And trailing mud on the carpet, too, I'm sure!

( XD WELL WHY NOT, I ASK? I keep labeling this ZEX*Captain, but DAX obviously adores his CO leik woah. :D )

(Oh, DAX. VIP gets a few cursory jabs with disinfectant and a bandage slapped on, but he must be VERY GENTLE with ZEX because he's a delicate blossom who mustn't be put through any discomfort at all. XD )

Heh, "DAX" is the "John" of VUX names. Nice character detail, too.

Really, it just makes sense that they'd dump all the undesirables of the VUX military (and also civilians?) into ZEX's care. VUX that are difficult to deal with, those who are too free-thinking for military life, those who like humans (though maybe not to the...extent that ZEX does), even those who are apathetic towards humans... It's basically killing two birds with one stone.

"As it is, I have no desire to stay; there's nothing left for me there. So we're going to Zeeman. I have an aquaintance in that area; he'll help us on our way to our next stop... for a small fee, of course."

*doesn't have the starmap handy* The Melnorme, Trademaster Greenish?

ZEX certainly does have a somewhat...dramatic flair to him even in the actual game, doesn't he? It's one of the lovable things about him. <3

It's also a pity-- ZEX is a compelling personality (if his fairly vast number of fans, despite sending every one of us on a near-clueless chase that concluded in trying to kidnap our character, are any testament), and I'm sure many of the VUX who served under him (... excepting the dead ones BUT THAT'S NEXT CHAPTER) were the better for it. And by "better" I mean "more open-minded" which to any VUX would mean "worse" because they've perfected xenophobia to an artform.

*Looks at next chapter* "Ah, Trade Master Greenish! A pleasure to see you, as always." ...Yep, I'd say so. :D

Oh geez, I didn't even notice the VIP=Very Important Person connection until now. I just thought the name sounded cute. ^^;

*nods* He's one of the few characters in the game that we get to know as an individual, and an interesting individual at that. I'm sure his crew enjoyed life under ZEX's command much more than the life they'd have on the homeworld. Until they were eaten, of course. I don't think anyone would be happy about that.

Alas, I've never watched Fruits Basket. The only character I know of that in any way reminds me of ZEX is Dorian Red Gloria from From Eroica With Love.

Heh, I thought about typing "anthrophobic" too, but I didn't know whether it would be the correct term or not.
