GOSH IT WAS PURTY!!!
A little on the chilly side for the Aurora beast but otherwise real nice! In the 20s at night and 60s in the day! The sky was such a pretty blue! You never see that crystal blue in the valley, but in Toulumne it's just brilliant! it's the color blue the sky should always be!
Didn't really do much Wednesday since it took us a while to get up there and then set up, but Thursday I got away to do some hiking!
So for 2 hours in the morning I hiked up to Dog Lake and Lembert Dome
Yeah that was fun! It was about an 800ft ascention to the top and the trail was about a mile to the lake and then about a mile from there to the top of the dome. And I didn't even make it to the highest part of the dome....that was just to scary or a walk for me, cause I wasn't wearing something more approprate. And as a little fact Toulumne Meadows are already at 8600ft so wheeee!
It was nice and windy up top! But very peaceful since Toulumne is less visited than the valley! I didn't even see a single person on my morning hike until I was almost to the top of the dome!
Plus they're getting ready to pack everything out for the winter (lodge and stables were already closed)
When I made it back to camp (about 2 hours later) we had to pack everything up and check out. Then we parked and took the little trek over to soda springs through meadows and we stopped and picnicked...it was nice.
Mom had more energie than me because I hadn't really had lunch after my morning excursions, so compared to me she was a ball of energie!
And always entertaining!
After lunch we decided to head towards the East Gate and check out stuff on the way there.
Dana Meadows and Dana Creek!
We stopped last at Tioga Lake, where I got to see and Eagle sweep down to the lake with talons open and scoop up a fish!
Very purty but it's weird to see the mountains without all the trees!
After that we just took our time going back towards Home.
Half Dome from Olmstead point on Tioga Road
Stopping along the way to see various stuffs. Mini detours down roads, like the mini-road to May Lake Campgrounds parking (we'd actually have to hike to see the lake and I couldn't hike anymore) and great stories (like the one about Smokey Jack) helped pass the long drive back! And instead of taking the 41 (south exit) we decided to take the 120 (merced exit) back home, just to see the rock slide over there! Yeah we're dorks!
Got home somewhere after 7, unloaded the car and crashed...the end!
PS: You might want to check out the photo gallery I made it has a couple more pics in it!
