My alarm wakes me up at 6.00 so that I can do two hours of homework before I bundle up in my scarves and mittens and trudge to class for six hours (six hours that I would rather be spending writing my paper). As I settle down with my Spanish textbook, my radio-alarm clock informs me that "the power is completely out at UBC, so classes are cancelled".

I peek through my blinds. It is quite eerily dark out.
