I went shopping a few weeks ago. Both pairs of my FAVORITE blue jeans (SO brand, at Kohl's) needed to be retired- they were pulling apart at the seams, and I needed to replace them before I go to Pittsburgh next week for vacation. So I look around the juniors jeans section, find the same pair as before, try them on, and lo and behold, they don't fit.
I should feel like absolute crap, right? The best jeans I've ever owned, and now I'm too fat to fit into a new pair of them.
*INCORRECT ANSWER BUZZER NOISE* I was fine with it.
I went to Torrid (50% off all clearance prices), came home with a gorgeous pair of skinny leg jeans that look fantastic, and my mom is turningmy old pairs of jeans into custom made denim skirts that fit perfectly.
And it was when I was admiring the first skirt Mum finished today, something hit me. Very hard.
This summer is the summer of the fat girl.
And under the cut, I list the reasons that this summer was made for girls like me.
#1. I mentioned earlier this summer about a group called the Glamazons heating up America's Got Talent. Well, they've made it into the top 8. These four girls are shaking what they've got, and they've made it a helluva lot further than anyone probably expected them to.

She dances, she gets the heart-throb, and she shows that you can do what you want, no matter your size. The 1988 movie wasn't the biggest hit, the Broadway show is only a hit among the people who have access to it, but this new movie is everywhere, and it's going to make a big (pardon the pun) impression on young girls from now on.

#3. BEYOND Hairspray. So, Zac Efron is, like, the hottest Disney teen since I-have-no-idea. And rumor (since no one in his camp has made an official announcement) has it he is dating Vanessa Hudgens. Okay, that's cool. But then you have THIS:

Is that not fantastic? How often do you hear that? I hear very infrequently, and having this gorgeous guy (and he's Jewish- I'm in heaven!) say that he's not all into the skinny little things (not that there's anything wrong with you skinny little things!) really boosts confidence.
#4. Mika. I only just found out about him, but this song makes me want ot dance. It's got just the catchiest refrain: "Big girl/you are beautiful."

So, that's why this summer is the summer of the big, insert-hair-color-here, and beautiful. I'm hoping that the rest of the life stays this way.
