This is a Mortar - a densely packed tube of newspaper holding an explosive element - looks like an old school TNT stick.. Light it, run like fuck, it explodes with a very loud BANG and leaves a lot of newspaper shreds everywhere. It doesn't light up or anything, its just a huge cracker. Its not uncommon for about 10/20 kids being hurt by these, there are zero restriction on sale of fireworks anywhere and are available year round. So are bindings, burns, injuries and deaths.
It was pretty bad ass lighting these things with a Marlboro.
