Holiday in DeCambodia

Dec 19, 2009 18:04

Last couple of days we were at Royal Decameron - it´s a resort hotel, all inclusive too - for about $80 usd you eat all you want at all the restaurants, DRINK all you want at all the bars and apparently a week ago it was possible to smoke all you wanted too. They used to have free cigarettes at the bar but apparently they stopped doing that for reason the first: it was getting expensive for the hotel and reasons the second: it was bad for health. (In that order)

Now for the down  right wacky We got there at around 8/9 am - unlike in ANY OTHER HOTEL RESORT ON EARTH - you can check your bags in but you can’t check into the room until 3 PM - Ah hunnn.... So we agree this makes NO SENSE right?

The food is okay, I´ve had worse and lucky we didn´t fare like some other Canadian tourists in the past who have keeled over sick with gastro. None of the water there is potable but I still brushed my teeth with it and hours later I feel fine - I think I am now resistant, and possibly bullet proof (DO NOT TEST THIS OUT PLZ).

Because their main visitors are LOCAL tourists - they have these poor kids working around the beach with their little clip boards and every time you pass by them they´ll try and sell you a membership or whatever. That´s FINE the first time around but when you’re trying to read and chillax and oh god here comes ANOTHER ONE. Yeah - that´s fucking weird and rude - who thought that was a good idea? People are trying to play with their kids while they´re chest deep in the pool and some dude wants to sell him like a frequent visitor’s thing.

No other hotel would probably last long in any other country with hotel people constantly trying to solicit them.

Don’t trust lifeguards here because they don’t know shit - most reviews I´ve read on the subject at Decam was that they don’t know proper CPR or lifesaving skills and the beaches outside the surf break are tough where people actual fax drown. Everybody loves the illusion os safety right?

And the Good?

The pools and the gardens are very clean, there´s a lot of tacky Faux maya statues everywhere (I highly doubted the mayans used concrete and pottery chips to make totems out of)

$35 for 50 minute Swedish style massage? I had me mine and it was lovely - the spa treatments are quite good.

It´s good if you want to spend like, all day in the water, fresh water pools, salt water pools and private beaches were quite pretty and clean. I had a tottle over the rock pools formed by the volcanic sea blorp and saw crabs and fish and the usual pool dwellers. Watching crabs argue is hella fun - like the soap opera of the sea except in this one someone loses an eye over a dispute over a tiny hole.

Some of the bar tenders know how to mix drinks probably, most just blop it into a cup - regulars can buy a thermal cup where they can refill and not have to go back to the bar often. You see a LOT of wasted people there since all beer, spirits and soft drink is all you can drink. I know I got CRUNK yesterday, vomited, was better and lived to tell about it. Other tourists 2 Cents has been that as far as all inclusive resorts go it´s a low 3 out of 5 - better than Cuba but not as Good as the Caribbean ones.

reveiws, on the road with housepet
