so for the second consecutive year i have had to work on independence day and therefore have missed the parade, the book sale and the flea market in the center of town which i generally look forward too. it's a great time to see friends and get cool jewelry and such. also, again this year the pharmacy was dead so my being there at all was kinda pointless. to add to that, justin's evil bosses sprung the new summer schedule on him last minute, i.e. last night and only because he bugged them, and he found out that in addition to other scheduling problems, he has to work tonight, therefore effectively missing ben's party we had planned on going to for a while. so pretty much today has been crappy like it was last year. at least i still get to see the town fireworks. we'll see if he makes it here in time as well.
so pretty much the day is uneventful. it's quite hot out though which is good i guess if i decide to go for a swim. might be a good way to pass the time. hope everyone finds their own way to celebrate today. julys like to be bad luck for me. i shouldn't be surprised.
"The sun is coming up in the backyards of America. Oh, say, can you see. The coffee's on, the curtains drawn, conversation, quiet laughter from the TV. Good morning America. 'Cuz we drove all night towards the Great Divide, thinking there was freedom in the western skies. Oh, can we leave the east behind? And then I saw the Leadville lights, we were singing Rocky Mountain High as we drove across America. But I'll take the backroads, I'll take the backroads. I'll take the backroads. I'll take the backroads, will you meet me there. Will you meet me there?
The engine churns, endures on the highway, from Utah to Idaho, hope these tires know the way. Passed by covered wagons, cowboy trains, wild horses, desert rain as we drove back in time, through the turnpikes of our minds. Will you meet me there, will you meet me there?
She watched the towers fall from her flat in Californiay, and the rocket's red glare. And she got in her car, drove to work, and she found that there's really no more room out there. 'Cuz we're living our manifest destiny, kingdom of highways, strip malls and SUV's. God Bless America. 'Cuz we're living our manifest destiny, kingdom of highways, empire of prosperity. God Bless America. I'll take the backroads. I'll take the backroads. I'll take the backroads. I'll take the backroads, will you meet me there?"
