I'M HOME!!!

OMGCOMICCONWASAWESOME!

First order of business: my cat is SO HAPPY to have us home again. He's purring in my lap right now.

Second order of business: CON REPORT OF DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Actually, I'm not going to do a complete rundown. More like a general skimming of the highlights. First off, my crew was AWESOME! I haven't had so much fun with a group of people since Kumoricon 08. Oh wait, that was almost the same group of people. No wonder! We all stayed at the Marriott hotel in Mission Valley which was on the trolley route to the convention center. And the nearest station was across the street from the hotel. VERY convenient.

The first day we all did our stepsister!Jäger outfits, my roomie was bunny!Zeetha, Tyson was Tarvek, Hayley was Agatha, and Nika was her OC Jäger character (sort of, she was having trouble with her makeup, ears, and teeth so she held off on that stuff). Many photos were taken and everyone at the SF booth seemed to greatly enjoy the costumes. We got stopped for pictures CONSTANTLY so it was very difficult to get around the con but the attention was great. ^_^ Sheena and I went back to the hotel before anyone else because we were tired and cranky and sore. We took showers and went swimming. The pool was fun because after the sun went down the pool lights came on and they changed colors! It was very cool.

Friday was my L day. Molly was Naomi Misora, Sheena was Aphrodite 9, and I think everyone else just went in normal clothes. Well, as normal as we get. Tom might have had his Mario getup on, and Nika was semi-OC Jäger again. This day was A LOT more comfortable. We were all in much more manageable costumes. Comic-Con had A LOT fewer L's than Anime Expo did. I only saw maybe two others besides myself.

Saturday was completely FULL OF WIN! That was Avatar Day so I did my Aang cosplay. I got many compliments on it and had SUCH a blast hanging out with other Avatar cosplayers. I woke up extra early that morning to get ready because I was supposed to have breakfast with Phil, Cheyenne, and the others. However, pretty much everyone had to bail out at the last minute so I only ended up eating with Carol. She's super awesome though! We had a great chat and I've certainly made a new friend. :) We ate at this awesome little restaurant on Market St and 5th Ave called The Cheese Shop.
I got to the convention center and ran up to the sails pavilion to get in line for the Avatar autographs ticket drawing. You have to win a ticket first and then come to the actual signing later in the day. I had a lot of fun with the other cosplayers and we took a bunch of pictures (I'll scour the CC photo albums later to see if I can find any). We even broke out into an enthusiastic rendition of "Secret Tunnel". I managed to score a winning ticket thanks to the help of a sweet Fire Nation!Suki cosplayer.

Later I attended the Avatar Meetup and lo! Mike and Bryan (the creators of Avatar) were there taking pictures with the cosplayers!!!! It was SO AWESOME of them to show up there. And yes, I managed to get a picture with them:

I stuck around and talked to a lot of awesome people (got to meet and talk to kornersphere, the creator of the Puppet Bending Youtube videos and we talked puppets, yay!) and took lots of photos with people. Again, I'll try to find some of these photos later, once people have had a chance to upload them. Although, I did manage to get one photo on my camera, of me with a Blue Spirit cosplayer:

Oh! There was also this guy there who I think worked on the martial arts aspect of the movie. I have no idea what his name was but he was teaching us some bending moves! I learned a little earth bending, because we know that's what Aang needs the most work on. It was AWESOME!

Next was the actual autograph signing. Everyone got a signed poster (I'll have to dig through my luggage to find mine) and we could also get two or three other things signed. I brought my Book 2, Volume 1 DVD with me and got that signed:

Lastly we attended the Masquerade Party which was a lot of fun. It was less stressful than going to the actual Masquerade itself (you have to sit in line for hours just to get in, let alone get a good seat) and there was food available. There were some NEAT costumes and awesome skits. I'll post videos and pictures later once I find them. Also, Phil was as entertaining as ever as the Masquerade emcee. My group and I were especially giggly at all his jokes and funny facial expressions. OH! And to any Skytides people who might be reading this: HE USED THE PARROT AND THE MAGICIAN ON THE CRUISE SHIP JOKE!!! Ahahahahahhaaa!!! Go read Maxim's tags in the prison log if you're not sure what I'm referring to.

Since I was a woman cosplaying Aang a couple people asked me if I was actually Ember Island!Aang. That thusly started the use of my two most-used lines that day, spoken with a high-pitched girly voice: "I'm an incurable prankster!" and "Avatar state, YIP YIP!" I also found joy in addressing every Fire Nation cosplayer as "hotman". The Firelord Ozai cosplayer was "Lord Hotman".

Yesterday morning I went to breakfast with Phil at The Cheese Shop. He felt bad for not showing up the previous morning so he invited me out again and even paid for my breakfast. Phil is one of the most awesome people I know, you guys! For reals! The blueberry pancakes were delicious, btw. I highly recommend that place for anyone visiting downtown San Diego.

Sunday was indeed our regular!Jägers day so I was back in my old Maxim costume, except for the new wig of course. Molly was Dimo, Tom was Oggie, Sheena was back in bunny!Zeetha, Hayley as underwear!Agatha, Tyson, as bedsheet!Tarvek, and Nika finally got all orange and fang-y for her OC Jäger character. I only saw two panels that day so I spent a lot of time at the Foglio booth, trying to draw crowds. The rest of the group came around a few times as well and we had a blast chatting with Girl Genius fans and curious potential readers.

Sadly, Comic Con ended and we all headed back to the hotel to hang out, swim, draw, and generally unwind. We had lunch at an Indian restaurant today and then went our separate ways.

Here are links to different LJ posts that feature photos of myself and my group. Pretty much all of them are photos that Cheyenne sent to Kaja from his phone:

And last but not least, a photo of epicness:

Left to right (and up to down): Carol, Cheyenne, me as Maxim, Alice, Phil, and Savannah. Cheyenne's and Phil's poses crack me up.

Next up, KUMORICON! Yay!!!

ETA: I'd also like to announce that over breakfast yesterday Phil informed me that he and Kaja will in fact be attending Kumoricon this year, even though it doesn't say so on the SF calendar. YAY!!!
