NYC highlights and hilarious points.....

Erin and I went to NYC yesterday to see Hair on Broadway. Hair is play about the flower children and issues of the 60's, such as drugs, war, and adult responsibilities. It some great well known songs such as "Aquarius" and "Let the Sun Shine". The trip was fabulous, and freakin' hilarious, so much so that I had to blog about it.

On the way there Erin enjoyed my DJ skills on my ipod, featuring 80's synthesizer hits (including "name that synthesizer tune").

Three and a half hours later we were arriving at a rainy, foggy NYC. No problem, we have umbrellas!!!! After parking in NYC (it's not that hard people!) we headed to Juniors Diner for lunch.

Juniors is in the theater district, best known for it's appearance on "Throw Down with Bobby Flay" for it's cheesecake. Juniors is always packed, after pushing our way past 50 people who appeared to think the closer they stood to the hostess booth, the sooner they'd get called. Luckily Erin knew that sitting at the counter is the best way to go, and I jumped ahead of her to snag two end stools. We shared an open faced turkey sandwich with gravy and cranberry sauce (holy Thanksgiving revival, so freakin' delicous. And we followed it with carrot cake that they cut in half and stuffed with a whole slice of cheesecake (yumMMMM).

Then we waited in a nice long line (welcome to NYC!) to get into the theater. I was thrilled to see that I got to sit next to an old man that was as wide as he was tall (Mmmmmmm unnecessary closeness....), but Erin was nice enough to let me cuddle into her for relief.

The show was great, the guys had open shirts, and at the end of one song everyone got full frontal naked (I must make a note here that Erin had more to say about male anatomy observations than me..... hmmmmmmm). At the end of the show, while singing "Let the Sun Shine" they gestured for people to come the stage. Erin and I grabbed eachother and ran up there like a sinner waiting to be healed!!! We danced and sang on stage, spotted our favorite actors, and reveled in the experience of looking at a Broadway audience from the stage.

Afterwards Erin wanted to get her playbill signed, which meant a mad dash to the stage door entrance. Luckily for us (not), Erin forgot her umbrella, so she braved the now huge wet snow showers to get a spot at the stage door while I retrieved the lost umbrella. We were freezing, but got to see, take pics of, and talk to all the actors, including the hottie shirtless guys (who sadly, were now in parkas and boots....).

The drive home was beyond hilarious. Erin decided to return the DJ favor and we played "name that Janet Jackson" tune. I'll be happy to report I got all but 2 correct. After that it was "80's/90's karaoke" in the car, including a full out version of DJ Kool's "Let me Clear My Throat". Yup folks, 4 hours of this ;)

On the drive I had an epiphany, we had to eat dinner, and we'd be passing through Delaware where we'd be close to our fav Delaware restaurant, Atillio's. A quick phone call to confirm they'd be open, and by 9 pm we were dining on Smelts (a small fish deep fried), Gnocchi and Spagetti with Meatballs.

Finally, at 12:30, I sleepily made it through the front door, crawled into bed for some much needed sleep. My daughter Emily is so fantastic, she slept until 9:30.....which meant I got to sleep until 9:30. You're the best Em ;)
