This is controversial

As the subject states, this is not going to be something that everyone agrees upon and some might feel like what I am about to say is racist but so be it.  I would also like to say that I am trying to not be racist in saying this.

Alright, so.  As all of us know by now there was a mass killing at Fort Hood last week and it was a very upsetting thing to many people not only those directly involved or affected.  It was disarming to think that someone who signed up to defend and protect our country would go and  kill people that were there as well.  I think signing up for the military is a very selfless act and respect people that are willing to protect and die for our country in doing so.  I don't think I could ever make a commitment like that.  These soldiers that were killed and injured weren't even protecting their country!  They were killed by a fellow soldier!  I realize I am pointing out the obvious here but it is just shocking to me.  My father has worked, up until recently, on an Air Force base.  The security that they set up so that things like this don't happen is intense but unfortunately necessary due to the fact that the United States has realized that we aren't as safe as we thought being on our own continent away from everything and everyone else.  They shouldn't have to protect soldiers from other soldiers.  It's sad that it has now had to come down to that.  Being on base always gave me and I'm sure most people a sense of security because of the mass amount of security, but that is now gone.

My real point hasn't even been touched on so here it comes.  When watching the news and seeing what was unraveling that day my dad said, "I bet it was a terrorist."  I said most likely not, they think it was a soldier.  He then said exactly what I was expecting to come next.  "I bet it was a Muslim.'"  My heart honestly sinks every time I hear anyone talk as though ones faith defines exactly who they are.  As he said that I prayed that it wasn't so that my dad would be wrong.  I want desperately for Muslims not to have that stigma.  For people not to think that all Muslims hate Americans and everything they stand for.  Being a student of religion I know that there is nothing in the Qur'an saying kill Westerners.  It is not something they are taught and the Islamic faith is actually very beautiful.  Unfortunately, as most people know now, this man was indeed Muslim and a follower of the Islamic faith.  There are witnesses that say as he shot people he screamed in Arabic "Praise God."

My heart hurts for Mr. Hasan and everyone affected by this tragedy, and the Muslims in this country.  This is just one other person proving to the close minded people of America that they are right in their beliefs of the Muslim and Islamic culture.
