Jason Mraz and Marijuana

I read this today from Jason Mraz's blog and I really liked his stance on the question of what do you think about the legalization of marijuana?  This is his answer.  I agree.

Marijuana is already one of the largest cash crops in the United States - I would love to see Farmers thrive and not be jailed.

It would be beneficial for the whole to not ( Read more... )

I have tried having this conversation a million times with mom. she doesnt get it. she absolutely thinks its a gateway drug

maybe its generational.. so many people in the 60s and 70 smoked pit AND ALSO did much heavier, addicting drugs. Maybe thats why she feels this way.

its ridiculous.

I can see where people come from saying it is a gateway drug because more often than not people don't just jump right in and start using meth, coke, heroine, etc. Generally speaking people smoke weed first. At the same time many people have their first drug as weed and go no farther. Others will smoke weed from the day they start till the moment they die and try nothing else. So yes, technically it is a gateway drug but that is just by default, you know.

By that logic, they ought ban cigarettes then. They're legal, easily accessible from a fairly young age (18 legally, and long before to most teens), cause all sorts of health problems, and are usually one of a person's first forays into the drug world.

They are also pretty cool, but that's another story.

I still do not understand why all drugs arent legal. if they are....people woudlnt be as stupid with them as most would thing. If, like liquor, you needed a license to sell drugs, thi liscne nk about teh boost to the economy. if places were given a to sell drugs, they woudlnt mess around with it...much like how most "good" bars card people...they know that if they get caught selling to people underage...they will lose their liquor license ( ... )

I agree with some of this. But the whole gateway drug thing and you mom is a very good point.

I guess my argument about legalizing other job is that there are plenty of people that smoke weed and still have functional lives and hold jobs. Much more than we give credit for. Also weed affects people differently so there are some people that can be high and still function. However when you deal with "harder" drugs like meth for an example, functionalbility is not there, neither is being able to hold a job. And yes there are people who smoke weed that can't hold a job, but I feel like you are more likely to be able to smoking weed than smoking meth. And as a funny end joke. We have never had a President that did meth but we have had plenty that have smoked weed. Just sayin'!

yes, but since weed isnt addicting, its only a gateway drug if you CHOOSE that. i guess anything, drug, food, tv, sex....can be considered gateway if people are gluttonous
