"There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there. "

It's upon watching the uncut version of American Psycho that I realize the artistry in writing. The narrative in the screenplay reads so well, so well that it gives you this sense to feel bad for him. He's out of touch, like a child whose never felt their mothers arms around them. You feel terrible, so completely guilty that there is nothing you can do to save him from himself. To save the world from the hands of a mass murderer that has no control and no hand of the law or God to stop him.

"I have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. Something horrible is happening inside of me and I don't know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip. "

From my standpoint, it's the perfect viewpoint of a man in the midst of a social obsession. The cruelty of his peers, the angst of growing into something despite the ideals that he's already as grown as he can be. Evolution can't be reached by the push of goals, you know? It's human and natural and only science and the fingertips of God can make that change. Just shows vanity and arrogance of the baby-boomers and the wall-street fuckheads. It's fantastic. It's perfect. It's real.

Anyways, read the book or watch the uncut movie. Either/or -- it's awesome.
