Happy (belated) Christmas! I hope y'all had a lovely celebration of the winter holiday of your choice.

My Christmas was...okay. Not bad, just okay. A lot of this, I think, is because I just got back from Japan last Tuesday, so I missed a lot of the buildup (although on the other hand, I didn't want to stab myself in the eardrum after the umpteenth airing of that awful red shoes song on the radio, either). Plus I was still jetlagged and/or sleep-deprived, so I just had no energy the whole time I was home with my family. Saturday night I fell asleep on the couch by about 8pm, in the middle of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Needless to say, the constant tiredness made staying up for the midnight church service on Christmas Eve even more of a trial than it's become in recent years. Just a few observations: (1) Yes, Choir Lady, you have a nice voice. But maybe not quite nice enough for you to attempt O Holy Night. Especially because you sang it last year and were equally mediocre then too. (2) It's a midnight service. We all want to go home and get to bed. Maybe you could cut out the extraneous stuff like the eight gazillion readings and hymns (not even good hymns! the bad ones that nobody likes!), so we could get out of here, hmm? (3) STOP CHANGING THE WORDS TO THINGS. The angel says "fear not"! Not "don't be afraid." And Jesus is wrapped in SWADDLING CLOTHES. This is not hard. Stupid new Bibles. *mutters* Yes, even though I don't particularly like going to church these days, I am still stubbornly traditional.

Anyway. What else? I had to go back to work on Boxing Day, seeing as I used a couple of extra vacation days for the trip to Japan. Which kind of sucked, but I didn't actually have to *do* anything while I was there except read footballer RPS. Not so bad, really.

And how are you all?
