Well, another Shabbat in the Holy Land has come and gone. While I was stressing out madly, you were all sound asleep in your beds, while visions of sugar plums danced in your heads.
Merry Christmas, I don't think I'll miss this one this year.
It's hard to come to grips with the fact that even though the vast majority of Israelis are ("Jewish") secular, the country winds to a bit of a halt every Friday afternoon. It's little things, like making sure you have transport home or food to get you through the weekend. There are no supermarkets (or at least not around here anyway) open on Saturday. IKEA, not that I've been there yet, only opens 30 minutes after
Havdallah till 11:00. So while I was stressing about losing my wallet, I also had to concern myself with making sure I had at least a taxi back to the meonot (dorms), lest I be stranded off the mountain in Haifa.
