Dear Yulefriend,
Fate has brought us together, and I couldn’t be happier. This is my first Yuletide, as previously I only tended to participate in big, monolith fandoms that were rife with fic. Now that I’ve been gravitating more towards smaller fandoms, I ache for them to get the kind of attention and quality fic they deserve. So THANK YOU for participating in this, and helping to make this happen!
I have no doubts I’ll be happy with whatever you create, so this letter is just in case you’re interested in what attracts me to characters/fandom/fic and are feeling generous in catering to those, if you need additional inspiration, etc. They’re all just prompts, so if you are pulled a different way, who are we to deny your muse? I hope you enjoy writing this holiday season.:)
My likes: Shippyness, strong women characters who are kick-ass AND have vulnerable moments, the angst/romance combo, conflicted feelings, psychology, character studies and exploration of said *feelings*, M-fic, hopeful endings.
My dislikes: Hard non-con, gratuitous violence, character bashing, character death, absence of or minimization of female characters. 95% of the kinds of epithets people use in place of character names. I tend not to get as excited about gen fic, but I wouldn’t say I dislike it.
As far as het, slash, femslash… it’s all good in the hood.:) I’ve been writing primarily femslash for awhile now, wrote a lot of het before that - I haven’t really had a m/m pairing speak to me yet and I doubt the characters I’ve chosen lend themselves to it, but whatever you feel will make the best story, go for it!
So let’s talk about fic:
Request 1: X-Files RPF -- David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson
First-time fic… set during the original series filming, sexy, angsty, maybe a little punishing, like all the good adulterous pairings. I have a slight preference for them not really liking each other all that much, the first time around.
X-Files was my first grown-up show and ship, but it wasn’t until much later I became interested in the actors behind all that chemistry. DD and GA are both strong personalities, opinionated people, rife with flaws (perhaps one of them more than the other - ahem), and incredibly attractive. Lawd help me, I’m fascinated by that dynamic, and it makes me drooly to think of the moment when all the tension, push-and-pull, and perhaps unwanted attraction that I can imagine they felt just came to a head and they couldn’t control it anymore. Horrible person alert -- this is all more interesting to me if one or both of them is married/with another partner, so nothing is uncomplicated or easy. I’d imagine this would work best M-rated, but if you wanted it to be mostly exposition, I’d be cool with that too.
Request 2: The Good Wife -- Alicia Florrick & Kalinda Sharma
I would love an Alicia/Kalinda hurt/comfort fic -- preferably slashy, heavy on the comfort, no preference on who’s in which role. Tropes (hypothermia snuggling, shared bed/shower after a scare, etc.) welcome.:)
Alicia and Kalinda are kind of my OTP - I’ve written a fair bit of fic for them, and there’s just never enough out there for me to be satisfied. We’ve got two incredibly strong women here who don’t allow themselves to be vulnerable in front of others very often, but when they do it with each other it’s an absolutely beautiful thing. I’m thinking this scenario would be the most satisfying if it were set post Ham-Sandwich!gate. The “hurt” part of this doesn’t have to be something horrifically traumatic; one of them just could be a little sick, or injured, or heck, just have had a really crap day at work, and as long as there ends up being a heavy dose of caretaking I’ll be pleased as punch. Take it to M, keep it a sweet PG - whatever feels right.
Request 3: Lost Girl -- Lauren
I’m craving a bit of dark!Lauren: slave to the Ash, her love life a mess, all making her a little crazy. Maybe she’s neglecting her work, drinking too much, sleeping with inappropriate people, being a bad girl (yes, please) - and someone (or someones) have to try to pull her out of it. I primarily ship her with Bo, but I’m open to having it be someone else surprising who tries to help her - Dyson, Kenzi, etc.
My new shoooow. Lauren - I love that girl. And canon has recently thrown into question certain things I’ve always assumed about her character, her history, etc, so I guess I’m sort of wanting someone to play on that… having her act out of character, and have it be a little angsty and/or sexy. There can never be enough Bo/Lauren in my life, but there are other relationships and interactions I’m just dying to have explored, too - I love Kenzi and would like to see her and Lauren find some common ground, and I’m not a big Dyson fan, yet I see some kind of chemistry between him and Lauren and think it would be an interesting combo. And Trick! He’s made of win. Basically, anyone who you’d choose to have Lauren interacting with in this fic would thrill me.
