Ahh, joining the "I write fic on planes" club, I see ;)

The complications and contrasts here are so stark, so vivid, that emotionally everything feels more important. (And yes, despite what you might say or think, there isn't irredeemable in any form) Alicia's little secret becomes headier, Kalinda's pain more raw, their friction full of dread and excitement. It all works.

She eventually stopped. Not because it was bad for her. She quit because she hated craving anything.
That seems particularly Kalinda-esque. And, as such, is a subtle but great observation on your part.

It feels odd in Kalinda’s fingers when she takes it - like a memory
Love this, and what you went on to do with it - the sharing of the cigarette and how it (and everything it stands for) seeps into the rest of their actions. You employ it beautifully.

HOLY CRAP, THIS IS AWESOME. I just cannot even- Alicia being a bad girl, with her hair, and her lipstick, and the fucking inappropriate people. YES. (It um, also may help that I have a slight thing for smoking. Slight. Like in a vague, wouldn't do it, wouldn't date it, but damn, kind of way.)

Okay, first off, the fact that Kalinda realises because she knows how Lish smells is just- Yeah. It makes me feel a lot of feelings. LOL. I think this fic was mostly written to prove to myself that A/K can make all manner of unsexy things (including but not limited to alleys and smoking) all scorching hot. THEY ARE MAGIC.
