After that, she asked the computer to locate Doctor McCoy, crossing her fingers that he was aboard. If he wasn't, what was she going to do? Confide everything to Spock and have him escort her to the med bay for a psych evaluation?
The computer answered that Leonard was in his office in the med bay and she let out a relieved breath, standing up. But then a thought struck her and she sat back down. What if he was like everyone else? What if he thought she was the captain? She hated being alone in all this, and all she wanted was her old life. The only thing she could do was go and see Leonard, and then she'd know if she had an ally in this whole mess, or if she was alone. She smiled ruefully as she realized what a captain-y thought that was.
Standing back up, she exited to the bridge and started to head out when she remembered she had to hand over the bridge to someone else.
"Mr. Spock," she said, as clearly as she could, "I have something to attend to. The bridge is yours in my absence."
He nodded. "Yes, captain."
Then she headed towards medical to speak to Leonard, a spring in her step at not messing up so far.

But then he couldn't help and look into his own file. Into Jocelyn's too. She was still McCoy. Still his wife. They had never divorced; she had become a diplomat and as her career in Starfleet began, it seemed his did too. They must have chosen this together.

She entered the med bay soon enough and headed straight for Leonard's office, stopping before the door and taking a deep breath to compose herself. She couldn't just throw herself at him. She had to be professional, just in case... Well, she didn't want to think about that possibility. It was time to dive in.
She hit the chime and waited.

"Hello, Doctor. How are things in here today?" She figured that was a good way to start. Feeling that she was going to start fidgeting soon, she clasped her hands behind her back like Spock.

"Things are... good, yeah. Yes. Uhh, I just wanted to, see if everything was... in order in here today." Meeting his eyes carefully, she added, "A lot can change overnight, don't you think?"
