First of all, thanks to
ratherbsailing and
literaryspell for the V-gifts! They made me smile.
Secondly, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and do the DH2 meme I saw on
ratherbsailing 's journal. I'm going to do day 1 and 2 (briefly, I promise) so I can catch up. I'm really enjoying everyone's opinions so far.
DH2 Countdown Meme
Day 1 (July 5th)- Rank the HP books in order of preference
1. Deathly Hallows - I loved how everything came together, I cried at all the death and destruction, and I loved Molly Weasley's "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" I even liked the camping. LOL
2. Half-Blood Prince - The story of Tom Riddle/Voldemort captivated me from beginning to end. I also enjoyed seeing a different side of Draco, even if I still didn't like the smarmy git. I found the Won Won/Lav Lav ordeal amusing, but also slightly annoying.
3. Order of the Phoenix - I felt like this was the first book to really "get to it" as far as depth and darkness. And I love to hate Umbridge.
4. Sorcerer's Stone - Everything is new and fresh and I still love rereading this book.
5/6. Chamber of Secrets/Prisoner of Azkaban - I put these together because I really don't prefer one over the other when it comes to these two. They were both good, but not great. Although Scabbers turning out to be Pettigrew really blew me away.
Day 2 (July 6th)- Rank the HP movies in order of preference I have to preface this by saying that I'm not a big fan of the movies, period. I watch them and I buy them, but I rarely watch them more than once after it's out on DVD (except for when my kids watch them, then I catch bits and pieces).
1. DH1 - I LOVED this movie, and I was ecstatic since it is also my favorite book. This is the first one I felt they really got right since probably CoS.
2. HBP - It may be my slight (okay ginormous) crush on Tom Felton, but I really liked this movie. There were certainly things I did not like about it (like gypping Snape out of his "I AM NOT A COWARD!" moment), but I thought it did a pretty good job at capturing the book.
3. SS - Although it feels like such a little kid movie, it's still the first one and holds a special place in my heart.
4. GoF - The only reason this movie ranks higher than the ones below it is because I love the graveyard scene at the end. I remember being completely repulsed by Voldy being reborn when I saw it in the theater. Dumbledore yelling at Harry about putting his name in the goblet forever put me off of Michael Gambon's Dumbledore.
5. CoS - Kind of a boring book, kind of a boring movie.
6. OOTP - I liked Imelda Staunton's Umbridge, and I enjoyed the twins antics, but I thought they left way too much out of this movie.
7. PoA - I really, really did not like this movie when it first came out. I didn't like all of the changes they made and Sirius was so filthy he really grossed me out. LOL I've seen some of it a few times since then and I can appreciate it a bit more now as just a movie rather than the book on screen, but it still doesn't move it up in rank at all.
