We learned about this in my "Search for Extra-Terrestrial Life" class at UT. That class was my favorite and it had so many fascinating tid-bits about stuff like this. I kept the book and I almost pulled it out last night, after reading your entry, to re-read the chapters about recreating the Big Bang.
Yes, we realize that particles created our Earth and our solar system. We have many different hypotheses about how we came from these particles and how we were created. (you should look up the clay theory b/c it's my fav) Even though I know a handful of ways the molecules could've created a substance that we came from I still go back to one question...
Where did the original matter come from? Yes, particles created the bang and created planets and stars and what not, but where did those original particles come from? SOMETHING (or someone) had to create them. Science explains it but what explains where the science began? Does that make sense or do I sound nuts?
It was a requirement for the additional science class I needed. I took microbial bio and cellular bio and I didn't want to take another biology class (b/c i dropped out of pharmacy school) so I said fuck it and took an astronomy class. After the first astronomy class I took 2 more and the extraterrestrial life class was my favorite, ever. Are you at UT?
I still have the book. The professor wrote it and it's extremely interesting.
Technically. I'm dual enrolled at acc and UT. After. Next fall (spring 2010) it'll be just UT. I will think about taking it! I'm all for non-boring classes, LOL
