019: DON'T STOP BELIEVING; HOLD ON TO THE FEELING.

Apr 15, 2010 20:45

as;dlfjasd;fljsdf SO I WAS GONE THE WHOLE DAY. I went to a Choir Festival with my school. Let me recap some little tidbits.

♫ Both our choirs rocked the house. We received Excellent scores.
♫ The hosting choir was a little arrogant and SUPAR DRAMATIC. Solos abound, strange entrances, location changes, the whole shabang. It made me facepalm. Constantly.
♫ I went to Venice High School for it, where Grease was filmed. Oh yes. Oh yes.
♫ I got back in touch with my old elementary bff during the course of the trip. :D We still click pretty well!
♫ I'm officially a comedian, ohohoho.

Now... the best part:

AN ENTIRE TEN MINUTES AFTER STEPPING OUT OF THE AUDITORIUM AND A BIT OF CHATTING, BOTH CHOIRS BURST OUT INTO SONG. THE SONG? "DON'T STOP BELIEVING".

ALRIGHT SO. Storytime. We were all feeling pretty awesome, right? And tomorrow is Bluegrass where we're going to perform Don't Stop Believing for srs for the incoming 8th graders, so we were doing the Glee rendition of the song, which is completely acapella where we have to do all the "dadadadadadadadadada" parts ourselves. So it made perfect sense for us to be able to sing without a piano.

And we did. We rocked so hard, I just... I still need to catch my breath. It was beautiful. Sure, there were people out tune, sure there were some notes that didn't quote fit in with the chords, but that's what made it perfect. It's impromptu, it's fun, everyone was in a circle and dancing and beatboxing and having the time of their lives. All the parts were there, most of the chords were intact and there wasn't a single person who wasn't laughing or smiling. It was just... it was a feel-good moment that will probably stick with me for a while. Soloists were done randomly, by whoever felt like belting out those solo parts just because they wanted to. It was so breath-taking in its simplicity. Everyone was bouncing and...

The raw emotion, the unstinted joy. It spurred happiness from every person there, and every person who stopped their walk to listen to us sing our hearts out. You could tell that everyone was having fun with it because when we got to the chorus, the guys would just have to add a bit of flare. So it was "Don't stop believing-- YEAH." And I giggled and laughed and grinned like the teenager and child that I am because... Because you just have to look at a moment like that where people with common interests and a bit of talent come together and enjoy themselves, really and truly. It was a moment of unity that made me laugh until I cried and warmed my heart to the point where I don't think I'll ever forget it.

I've never felt so deeply about my life and choir and school more than I had tonight.
