life, and qaf finale wishes

Jan 24, 2005 17:52

I finally got sick of my hair being natural, and dyed it for the first time in a year or more. It is dark, dark red, which was not really my intention, but it looks cool anyhows. Also! I didn't get any dye on the sink! Everywhere else, but not on the sink. \:D/

I have like eight gazillion things I need to do, when I would much rather goof off on LJ, fiddle with Adobe Premiere, and write fic, but ahh well. Such is life. Blah. Blah!

Okay, so it seems to me - beyond various concerns about plot, level of interest, and characterization in season five - that the QAF issue people generally find on their minds, whether spoiled or not, is if Brian and Justin will end up together at the end of the show.

Some Brian and Michael shippers have been known to say that B/M will be the final pairing, because their UK counterparts ended up together at the end of their series. (Although that finale was rather insane and ambiguous, so really, how can you tell.) But then, this possible outcome is pretty much disproven, at least through the last couple of seasons, by the fact that both Brian and Michael have partners that they love insanely a lot.

And Brian totally loves Justin. That is not an issue.

I have no idea if spoilers have shed any light on what will happen in season five, as far as B/J together or apart, (and please don't tell me if they have), but see, this is where I get crazy and unpopular.

I love Brian and Justin. They are my OTP. I do not want them to end up together at the end of season five.

This is not me thinking that they won't end up together, in fact, I would honestly be very surprised (and upset!) if they didn't. But think about this in terms of fanfic. For me, half the fun of the show is getting to play and write in this cool gay universe, and interact with people with which I ordinarily might not. But the Queer as Folk fandom seems almost destined to fade as soon as the show ends, because unlike a show with more mythology and backstory to work with (like Angel and Buffy), Queer as Folk is very immediate, and 'in the moment'.

So the fandom, in its current state, will not last. But think how much more quickly it would break apart if the season ended happily for all us B/J shippers. What would there be to write about? What would we delve into? What would we fix?

Think how much more fun it would be to explore many and varying B/J and non B/J outcomes, instead of just the one scripted by canon.

Or maybe I am just a fic addict.
