I am doing my best not to get terribly involved in the recent post-VVC discussion -- it helps that I have been struck by con crud and am too busy blowing my nose to think coherently. However, I think it is important to remember a couple of things

Thank you for what you said at the start. I don't know about others, but I had such fun last year while I was at the con and that sense of fun while there just sort of slips away when you're stuck at home reading stuff on a page, and I think I start losing more and more practical perspective the more stuff I read. ;) But, anyway, basically it's all YES and thank you.

And also thank you so much for the critique of Bachelorette! That's actually a viewpoint/interpretation that I haven't come across before so I'm really glad that you pointed out the bits that didn't work for you. For what it's worth, I'm not anti-Joss at all and am actually quite sorry that it was so ambiguous that it could come across that way. The perspective is really appreciated.

Yes, exactly. I could see that happening to a lot of my friends, and probably a lot of people involved in the recent conversations -- and to me, as well. And it's not that many of the points being made aren't valid -- they just don't sum up all of what the con is, and I worry that we forget that while in the midst of critical discussion.

I'm glad the critique helped! I've since had a chance to read your notes on the vid, and I understand more of what you were trying to do -- that's just the first impression I had. And I did really enjoy watching the vid, regardless of the convoluted meaning(s) I drew from it. :)

I apparently introduced myself three times to hollywoodgrrl, twice while fairly drunk, so maybe we can pretend one of those times was for you? *headdesk* I do remember telling her that she was the reason I watched Legend of the Seeker, but other than that it's a blank.

Hee, that works! I kept spotting hollywoodgrrl across the room and going, oh, I should really go say something to her about -- ooh, shiny object! and this persisted until the end of the con. Sigh.

Thank you so much for what you said about con reports. I'm just... I'm so flummoxed by all of this, and it distresses me to the level where I can't quite get my own reviews and comments started. You're putting it much better than I can (because my tendency is just to all caps with stuff like STFU).

I share your flummoxedness. On some level, I'm not surprised, because post-VVC discussions usually involve a bit of conflict, but they seem to have very quickly descended into outright wank this year. Perspective, we don't haves it.

Haha, that's probably because there isn't one! As my love letter to Buffy vid, I made it with every intention of "I love Buffy she is awesome" and that was about it. Which I know is a Very Bad Thing in the VVC school of vidding, but oh well! :)

Not necessarily! A lot of vids are made for "I love [blank] it is awesome" -- no bad there.
