Sometimes I make notes in my story drafts of things that I have to go back and fill out later with actual details. Usually, it's stuff like town names or mileages, and I can just ignore the note until it becomes imperative to the story that I go back and actually look shit up.
Now, I have discovered that I do it with other things, too. I just came across this little jewel, in this exact form, as I was reading back through the fic I'm currently working on (although I have no memory of writing this exchange):
"Hey, man, she was totally into you," Sam said. "I was just trying to help you out."
"[Metallica reference]," said Dean.
I fail at pop culture. And, possibly, characterization.
