Nobody's a Long Time
By sweetestdrain. Doctor/Jack.

Slash. Contains spoilers up to Doctor Who 2x13 "Doomsday", but only speculation for Torchwood (beyond the fact that Jack will be in it). Title from Kenneth Patchen's poem "Lonesome Boy Blues."

Written for _bellacosity in the Tenth Doctor Ficathon. The request was for Ten/Rose/Jack or Ten/Jack, PLOT and kissing. ( Read more... )

I'm glad to hear that the Doctor's loneliness came across, and I'm so pleased you liked the fic. Thank you!

Hee, I didn't even know you'd watched any of the Tenth Doctor yet! Yay! *hugs* And man... that episode broke me. I'm glad that my fic helped with your post-"Doomsday"-ness. I watched it a few weeks ago, and it still makes me all angsty to think of that damn wall. Gah. But it's such an awesome show -- did you and h.l. have fun marathoning? How many days did you spread it out over?

And speaking of Doctor Who fic... there's some crap out there, but a lot of lovely stuff too. If you ever decide you want to read some, time and inclination permitting, I've got tons of bookmarks, so just holler! That said, I really love that it's a show where you don't NEED to read fic in order to enjoy the heck out of it. *happy sigh*

I can't tell you how much I adored this story! The plot was lovely, the characters were so well done, and the entire thing was incredibly well written. Thank you!

Some things in particular that I loved:
-The whole idea of "living" paintings.
-The links to the paintings in question. That just made it so much more real and easy to visualize.
-The painting that Jack was put in was so fitting! Did it by chance inspire the story?
-Jack calling the Doctor on his original plan. Nice to know that Jack isn't afraid to call him on it.

Thanks again!

You're welcome, I'm very glad you enjoyed it! And it was a fun request to fill, so thank you, and thank you also for the kind words. I'm glad you liked the living paintings, they were a blast to write. It's good to hear that the links to the paintings added to it, too, as I was a bit worried I was going overboard.

As for your question, the fic came before the painting; I happened to stumble across Paul Cadmus's work after I'd already begun writing, but when I saw the Jack-lookalike in that one piece I couldn't resist writing it in. It seemed like something Jack would get a kick out of. What with the lack of pants and the rather phallic French loaf and all. ;)

Oh, wow. This is the Ten/Jack story I've wanted since the regeneration. Just brilliant, and the last line is gorgeous.
