Wheeee!! >.< Ok, ok, seriously now, we all knew it was coming, second volume, something to keep you occupied for seven minutes...let's get on with the second volume of...
Hot Brooding Guys!!! To start things off with a bang I present to you:
*Yury Zhivago in Dr. Zhivago*
Oh Hans, how we love you...even with that scraggly Russian beard. I haven't seen the real movie version of Dr. Zhivago but the Masterpiece Theatre version starring him and *bum bum bum* Kiera Knightly (as I suppress my gag reflex) is truly awesome and makes you wonder why he hasn't yet seen fame. Pivotal Angst Scene: I actually haven't seen it in awhile, but if you've seen it you know the whole fucking movie is one big angst-fest. ^_^
*Chev Chelios in Crank*
Ok, ok, I know..it's not love angsty, but it is death angsty which is great too. Jason Statham gets major taps for doing such a fine job of kicking major ass and acting major broody. See this movie not for it's fiber but for it's eye candy...Pivotal Angst Scene: Chev does a slow-motion-walk down the road, to an awesome Fatboy Slim song, knowing full well he will not survive the day. *shivers*
*Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith*
I didn't even realize there was a place here for my beloved Star Wars. Of course, I am beside myself. I need go into detail how painful, tragic and beautiful Anakin's fall to the Dark Side is. Scene after scene he makes more and more naive choices and in the end kills the one most dear to him. I was going to put up Life as House, because he does kickass teenage angst in that, but when Star Wars is on the line... Pivotal Angst Scene: Having been pursued to Mustafar, Anakin, in a jealous rage doesn't even realize he is killing his true love. :'(
*Richie Tenenbaum in the Royal Tenenbaums*
Admittedly, this one took me totally by surprise. But when you get down to it, this is one of Luke Wilson's more serious roles. He does like no other, pining over his beloved -adopted- sister, and in the Pivotal Angst Scene: attempts to kill himself while shaving and watches the blood flow from his lacy veins...just killer. Seriously, no pun intended.
*Lestat de Lioncourt in Queen of the Damned*
Alright, I have beef with this movie for being so completely different from the book that it raises my hackles...that aside, this movie rocks. The visuals are stunning, the acting is great, the soundtrack is ohmygod, and Stuart Townsend does a beautiful (but not blonde) job of playing always-angsty Lestat the Wonder Vampire. Pivotal Angst Scene: Ok, maybe this scene isn't about angst per se, but there's just something about Change playing while Lestat and Akasha play house on a remote island...biting games...carnage...lovely!!! Vampires are dead already though, so technically their whole existence is a broody one. Just read Interview and you really get an idea of how many angtsy moments he shares with Louis.
*Jerome in the Pillow Book*
Did I promise not to mention Ewan more than once? Doesn't matter, he's worth mentioning twice. Especially for this movie. See this movie. If you like writing see this movie. Pay attention to this movie. I wish I could do calligraphy like Nagiko...geeze. There are just too many beautiful texts and scenes in this movie to describe adequately. If you can find a copy of Blonde on a p2p, do, because it's an awesome song. Did I mention how much I like this movie?? XD Alright, enough. Pivotal Angst Scene: A perfectly depressed Jerome strolls into Nagiko's apartment and proceeds to kill himself slowly with a number of nasty pills. Ewan+death scene=angsty love. <3
*Tristan in Tristan + Isolde*
I love the myth/story of Tristan and Isolde, you'll know that from the next movie (sue me!!). It is painful and beautiful to watch the tragedy of the two lovers unfold. He falls for her then wins her for his king...almost the same story as Romeo and Juliet only in the end poor Isolde is left alone (and if I were her..depressed). Pivotal Angst Scene: When finally having achieved his goal of being loyal to both Isolde and Marke, Tristan dies by the river with much broody sadness... *sniff*
*The male cast of Mists of Avalon*
\
Specifically Michael Vartan as tormented Lancelot, but Edward Atterton does a fine job as the High King of Briton, as well as Hans Matheson as doomed Mordred. Perhaps it's careless of me to have two mini-series on this list instead of another movie...but Mists of Avalon means a lot to me, and all the cast did a great job with the behemoth of a book they had to work with. I overlook the differences every time I watch (I own it, I admit it!!) and am continually surprised at the things that make me sad in this movie. For the real Pivotal Angst Scene read the book, but in the movie I have to settle for the scene in which Gwenwyfar lifts her veil and totally ruins Lancelot's chances for happiness for the rest of his life. It's important to note that the entire book is virtually one love triangle going wrong after another. Wherein Gwenwyfar loves both Lancelot and Arthur, Morgaine loves Arthur, Lancelot and Accolon (and sends him to his death), Arthur loves both Gwenwyfar and Lancelot, and everyone gets screwed in the end. But enough about that.
*Pete Dunham in Green Street Hooligans*
Technically, this shouldn't even be on the list, but it's an awesome movie and very dark. Elijah Wood is beautiful short yet at the same time powerful, go Frodo!!! But really, I put this here because I don't think Charlie Hunnam has yet been offered a role in which he can live to his broody potential. We'll wait and see, I'm sure it's on it's way. Pivotal Angst Scene: Matt is introduced to the street war for the first time so delicately (sarcasm) by his new friend Pete and we learn exactly why the bloody conflict is so important to their lives. For another great source of broody check out the British Queer as Folk, he shines!!
Finally...and I can't believe I forgot this beautiful fucking movie:
*Igby Slocumb in Igby Goes Down*
A morbid, dark comedy/coming of age played by the talented and boyishly hot Kieran Culkin. I cannot express to you the loveliness that is this little movie. He runs away, he hates his family, he tries to find his place, he falls in love, his family screws him, his mum dies and he finally realizes what he needs to do. This movie tops me (though I'm not British so I dunno if that makes sense). Pivotal Fucking Angst Scene: Perhaps it's just the music (Badly Drawn Boy's Everybody's Stalking), but something about the violent and passionate kiss shared between Igby and Sookie is both painful and beautiful. Ah..makes me smirk just thinking about it...god I love that song.
*curtsies* Thanks you. I will now take my leave before I turn inside out from having forced all this out. Lovely. Goodnight. ^_^
