Hello, I was GD with my first son...that was over 8 years ago. I did the insulin and had no problems keeping it under control. Before I got pregnant this time, I was on oral meds for diabetes and had it way more than under control. I went to the doc on Monday and even though my #'s were "GREAT" They had to take me off of them and put me on insulin

(short background: gd pregnancy 2002 used 10 u of lantus for last third of pregnancy. t2 pregnancy 2006, started insulin around 26 weeks. current pregnancy, started lantus somewhere around wk 15 and added novolog a few weeks after that. currently on 15uLevemir at night and novolog before meals on widely varying sliding scale)
What meds were you on? My OB defers to my endo in all matters diabetic, including whether or not I continue(d) my metformin. I stayed on it all last pregnancy and am still on it for this pregnancy. I'm pretty much in the minority in this -- I've rarely found anyone that continued metformin.
I'm a t2 with a lot of insulin resistance. I can't imagine the quantity of insulin that I'd be taking without the sensitizing properties of the met, not to mention the additional stress on my body to compensate.
If I remember correctly, 14 weeks is one of the those "everything goes wonky" stages, like 20 weeks, 24 weeks, 32...etc.
Are you seeing an endo or ob for the diabetes? And how often are you testing? Before this pregnancy, I would test maybe 3 times a day (A1c=5.x range). After starting insulin, there was one time that I went through all 25 strips in my bottle in a little over 2 days. 4 of those tests were errors (damn one touch!), but still, that's a huge increase.
Sorry I wasn't very helpful with the direct questions, hopefully my rambling helped some.
