I got the Norton internship guys! My interview yesterday went great. Lemme rewind a lil. Got up yesterday morning, took a shower, got sexified, was out the door. The interview was for 11am, but I arrived there waaaaaay early, like 10:20am. Anyone who knows me knows that I am hardly on time, much less early, for anything and everything. So, I decided to kill some time and eat breakfast for McDonalds. Before I knew it, time was kicking my butt and it was dawning on 10:45am, so I got going. The interviewer, Zulaika, was gorgeous, which kind of intimidated me to an extent. There was a surprise though, and this led me to become very nervous: there was another employee there present---interviewing me. I cant remember her name, but she and Zulaika work very closely and do pretty much the same thing, so I guess she wanted to meet me too. I had this weird pit feeling in my stomach, which led me to think I wasnt the one they were looking for.
They asked me why I was interested in Norton and I said I want to become a published writer myself and I have loved writing ever since I could remember. This internship would give me the necessary experience in that world. They then told me that this was a publicity internship, somehow implying that maybe I had applied to the wrong type of internship. But I responded that anyone who wants to do something has to gain knowledge of the background blueprint. In other words, I want to become a published writer, but I need to also learn knowledge about writing, publishing, and most importantly, I need to gain knowledge about how publicity works in the writing field if I want my work to be advertised to the public. They were very impressed by that answer, and the rest of the interview was a piece of cake. Zulaika called me a couple of hours later and officially offered me the internship. I said, "YES!" obviously. I guess they grilled me because they wanted to make sure I had my head on straight. Lovely.
Well, let me tell u about the internship. It deals with publicity obviously, and more importantly, how Norton is being publicized to the public. A large part of the job is going through clips that mention Norton and getting an idea of how they're being conveyed. The job also entails menial work (filing, faxing, copying, blah) but it aint a big deal. Almost every job has that. I would be working with editorial assistants, editors, their interns, and other people in the company. I am nervous, but the feeling of attaining a valuable experience like this one clearly overrides that. The internship starts in January sometime. I have to give Zulaika my hours and days of availability. Let me remind u reader that the Norton internship pays $10 a day, I repeat, $10 a day, so I have to find another job, preferably a very flexible full-time or part-time position. Mission: underway.
On a sadder note, today was the last day of the fall cycle of my tutoring job, hence, MY last day as a BELL tutor for good. I'm happy, dont get me wrong, but the kids were so angelic these past couple of days. They did most of what I instructed, did their homework, stopped punching each other in every part of the body imaginable, etc. One kid said to me yesterday, "Awww...Ms. Wright, I'm going to miss u over the X-mas break." This same kid said today when he was leaving with his mom, "See u in January, Ms. Wright." Obviously, I didnt tell the kids I wasnt returning, so on Jan.10th, they're going to expect me. Oh well. They'll be in my heart. But like Celine Dion said, my heart will go on. And it will.
