Goodbye Calgary, Hello Wells!

Back in Beautiful British Columbia, the Best Place On Earth. Bit of a tall claim, but it works for me. BC’s always felt more like home to me than Alberta, which would make sense.

My last few days in Calgary were very good. On Monday I met Jillian and Tony downtown for dim sum (my last for four months... le sigh) and then Jillian and I did a massive shopping trip while Tony worked. I ended up with a new pair of boots for B’ville, a dress, and a scarf that makes me look like a pretentious art student, which I kind of am. Met up with Scott after Tony picked Jillian up, and we shot the breeze until I had to go to work.

Thursday, Thomas and I went to Banff - we started the day off by horseback riding, and it began to snow rather heavily halfway through our ride. Needless to say, after that we were more than ready to lounge in the hot springs. We finished off the day with dinner at a great pub, then drove back home. I finished off the night by going over to Jill and Tony’s for board games and white wine spritzers.

On Saturday my parents and I drove back to PG from Calgary, leaving after my last shift at the Jack. After a prepatory grocery trip, my mother and I headed up to Wells, as she planned on staying overnight at my place and then spending Victoria Day in B’ville. She helped me set up my apartment, and then we watched a few old episodes of the Red Skelton show.

So, now I’m here. I began work yesterday, and it’s going well. I think I’ve picked up everything fairly quickly, and I like working behind the candy counter. ;) Everyone I work with is great too - I foresee a fairly drama-free summer!

It’s snowing here, surprising as that is. Has been all day. But it’s my favourite type of snow, when the flakes just drift down lazily and melt as soon as they hit the ground.

I love the view from my new (old) apartment. Turns out it’s the same one I had six years ago, when I first came to work in B’ville. It’s been renovated a little since then; there’s a brand new stove and refrigerator, and the shag carpet that once covered the kitchen and the bathroom has been torn up and replaced with linoleum. But it still retains some of its old charm: the brown-black-red geometric carpeting in the living room, the dead outlet in the north wall, and the three missing slats in the blinds are all still here. It’s familiar, and somewhat comforting.

Note: I realize this entry contains an overuse of the work B’ville, which is slightly obnoxious. I acknowledge that, and wish to inform any that question my use of it that I deliberately avoid writing it out in full, as last summer my blog was found and read by someone who works in B’ville , who then used it to glean private information about his employees. Hence, I wish to avoid having any overly nosy assholes find my LJ in a google search.
