*blows off the dust*

Huh. Well. Hey LJ, it's been a while. I know that you and I have had some rough times together, but we've had a lot of good times too, and I'd like to think all that history together meant something, you know? And... this isn't easy... but I think I'm ready to take you back.

So, seeing as I haven't updated in about... 6 months? I suppose I should provide a little expository information.

Still in Calgary, just finished my third year of God knows how many. Still working towards my double degree, BA in English and BFA in Drama. Finished the third-year acting class and was accepted into the final level class. There's going to be 6 of us altogether, narrowed down from the 60 or so who started in first year. I've learned a lot in the past year; we delved into mask work, and I had to learn a Nova Scotia accent (I think it's fairly passable now).

Acting as landlord in the house now, with three room mates. They're all really good people, the house is clean and quiet, and it's a really good situation. We all run on our own schedules, and there's been no drama.

I'm working two jobs, while going to school. Both are bartending gigs. I work at ATP, a theatre that does a lot of innovative shows - in February there was a production that took place outside, on a set constructed entirely of snow and ice, the first of its kind in Canada. I also work at the Jack, a concert hall that houses the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and has amazing musical guests come through. A few days ago I got to see Leonard Cohen perform, and the Arrogant Worms about a week before that. :D Just one of the perks of the job.

Still with Thomas. <3 It's been about two years now, off and on, more on than off. We've got a good thing going, and I think he understands me better than almost anyone else I know. He's also been incredibly patient with dealing with my crazy stressed-out phases, so I think I'll keep him.

Now that you're all up to speed, on to what's been going on recently!

Wrote my last exam on Monday - English 371: The Canadian Fur Trade in Fact and Fiction. The course turned out to be a lot more interesting than it sounded. As well as studying primary source documents, we also looked at Cree poetry and a graphic novel about Louis Riel. Yay Canadian history!

With school over, I'm gearing up to head back to Barkerville again this summer. Refused to work on the street contract this year, after the shitshow that happened last year with Mark. I predict this summer's going to be a lot less stressful, as the family I'm working for is pretty cool and y'know, not batshit insane. I also won't have to deal with room mates, as I'll have my own one bedroom apartment. Wells is a good place to take some time off, and recharge for the upcoming school year. Plus, I'm writing a one-woman show, so I'll have an opportunity to workshop it up there. I'm going to miss Thomas, but he'll be able to visit me more often than he could last summer. He's doing work on Evil Dead the Musical here in Calgary, as well as the Fringe Festival, but in between he's planning on coming up and visiting me for about a month. We'll see if I can stand a month of him living with me. ;)

I've got a final performance in my tap class on Monday. In conjunction with doing a lot of movement-based work in my acting classes, I've also been taking tap. It's been a lot of fun, though a lot more difficult than I first anticipated. I'm definitely going to keep on with it, as well as looking into other dance forms. I tried a Bollywood class yesterday, and it was absolutely fantastic! Plus, I can add all this dance experience into my employable skills as an actor.

I've been on the Drama Undergraduate Society exec for the last year, and we just held our year-end awards show, aka The Ickies. It was a tremendous success, easily the best Ickies we've had in at least 4 years. The food was good, the entertainment was great, and people kept coming up to us and telling us how awesome it was. It was really rewarding.

My dad's up visiting, doing some business in town. My parents are in the process of moving, and so my mother's getting rid of a lot of things, including a beautiful, huge wooden jewelry chest. Naturally, I elected to take it, and she sent it up, along with all of her jewelry she didn't want anymore. So, I just inherited a ton of vintage jewelry! My favourite piece so far is a small golden watch she got when she was 18. It's over 40 years old and it still works!

I took my dad out to lunch today, and he decided on Red Lobster. I don't recognize anyone who works there now, though the bartender kept making eyes at me and walked past our table every chance he got. I've got a lot of memories associated with that place; it was a little sad to see how much had changed.

And now we're all caught up to the moment, which right now consists of me looking over the catastrophe that is my room, cataloguing what I'm going to move, and wondering where exactly to start my cleaning efforts. The pile of clothing on the floor over there looks promising...

'Til next time.
