You're right. My perspective totally gets whack sometimes. We're just going to have a little party at home - probably some greek food and a gluten-free, egg-free cake for Molly. I have learned that baking regular goodies in the kitchen gives both Molly and me some intestinal distress, and then I have to wash everything really carefully, so I'm just making an Oreo-cool whip-ice cream-fudge cake in the freezer, which keeps the house flour-free.
I've had kind of a boost lately - interested in volunteering and cleaning again. Maybe it just takes a year to get used to a new addition? I hate to jinx it.
I think part of it, at least, is that I'm trying to get more exercise, and, although I can't quite seem to ever make it to the Y, we've gone hiking 3 out of the last 4 Sundays. Yesterday, Cory and Molly soldiered on up a 850' gain, 3 mile elevation hike with a gazillion pound stroller up a rocky and impossibly-eroded trail even though they felt sick.
Mimi and Frank whine for like the first 30 minutes, but then get really into it. Frank is so funny. Even when his little legs are tired, he can't help but run.
What has suffered is cooking and meal-planning, but I feel better about the cleaning and the exercising.
I forgot to mention that Molly is walking? She started walking a couple weeks ago, and she's just so cute with her goofy little toddle. Sob.
And, I applied for a job. I am a little torn, but when it comes down to it, I can't imagine driving carpool for 5 more years. I'd like to get back to work. The kids are thriving, we're dealing with the gluten-free-ness (and will add another layer of complexity once Mimi gets her endoscopy). I'd like to get a nanny who drives and speaks English, is in this country legally, and has some intellectual capacity to discuss DNA, dinosaurs, and rock stars with the kids, as our days are a constant stream of difficult-to-answer questions.
Just an aside that I don't know if I mentioned, but Mimi has some pretty significant hearing loss. I suspect that it's cleared up to some extent after 2.5 months, but I have to take her into the hospital for a hearing test, and if she doesn't pass (and her doctor said she won't), then it's another set of ear tubes.
Frank is so fun to be around, and really keeps me smiling so much I hurt my face 50% of the time. The other 50%, I'd like to wrap him up in velcro and stick him to the astroturf outside with duct tape around his mouth.
Cheers!
