uI am so F***ing PISSED right now.
I just finished watching the match between Jennifer Capriati and Serena Williams with my mom. I said to mom "gee, I sure hope this match stretches out to 3 sets because it's gonna be interesting." Interesting yes but not for the reasons I wanted.
The freaking Umpire lady called a whole bunch of Serena's shots out when they were in and one of Capriati's serves in when it was out...all @ crucial moments during the match. I sat there beyond disgusted. The worst came in the 3rd set when it was 5-4 Capriati, who was serving for the match. It was deuce and the Ump lady called a shot in favour of Capriati when it was CLEaRLY Serena's, needless to say Capriati won the match...
Even when they guestioned Capriati @ the end of the match about the calls, they boo'd her, so I'm def. not the only one that smells a rat. and John McEnroe kept making sly comments about it, he was more pissed than me. This is exactly why broadcast journalism just fascinates me, McEnroe openly insinuating foul play, especially because Venus' match was badly called too...he was at it every 5 minutes bitching about the match (a throw back to the good ol' days), which reminded me of why I love him so much. anyways, McEnroe indirectly forced all parties to acknowledge the blatant foul-play on the part of the Ump, forcing guilty parties to hold themselves accountable.
No, this is NOT the '50s anymore, YES people must hold themselves accountable...especially those that let that Ump INTO the country in the first place, only to have her feck things up so badly. Yes, I'm going to pull a Lleyton Hewitt (formerly known as a race card) and tell Ump lady to keep her old school values in her old school country.
I guess I'm especially sensitive to this because playing the blonde hair-blue eyed kids of doctors at the private tennis club in my hometown growing up in my flourescent-coloured Bi-Way (like k-mart) track suits, it just makes this seem a bit too familiar.
But right now this instant I can see the all the trophies I've won, so it's ok, just as it will be ok for the Williams sisters, it's stuff like this that makes the desire burn for them, for me, even hotter.
THIS JUST IN:
-2 two executive members of the wta personally apologised to Williams
-She will be getting a letter of apology from the ump lady
-They r talking about suspending the ump, or even barring her from umping in the states again
-andy roddick is playing right now and he rocks my world, watching him play cheers me up a bit
