HOB, I <3 you. This was my first time doing their "Bypass the Line" thing. Awesome. We had to eat at the restaurant and get a signed receipt from the waiter. He was very cute and nice but a little out of it. He told us there were people out there already! So we (mom and I) ate quickly and got out there pronto. There were only 4 people out there. I burped up my crawfish the rest of the night. Thanks Scott. The bypass line is pretty much the back door and it opens 15 minutes before the main door. We got to hear the Zutons and the Redwalls sound check. I don't know why but I find that the coolest thing. Anyone's sound check. That's where the magic happens.
Mom and I got one of the center benches in the balcony. (Comes in very handy later.) Hey they have free Brush-ups in the ladies room! I'm easily impressed. I checked out the merch table right away too. I got my 3rd copy of Hopes and Fears. It's an autographed dual cd thing with dvd on the flip side. So it's worth it. Finally got the Zutons. They sold out at the Killers show. And the Redwalls ep was only a dollar. What the heck!
The Redwalls come out and they are dressed similar but different. They look 16. Except the drummer he totally didn't seem to belong. They were very Beatlesque. That doesn't bother me like it used to. I wouldn't cut Oasis a break for the longest time. They even had 3 singers and only 2 mics. One guy even sounded like a young John Lennon. (I don't throw that around willy nilly.) They are very talented and reminded me of what Hamburg/Cavern Club days might have been like. After their set, they are back at the merch table for autographs. Check. There was not really a line so I just finally cut in. Andrew, the John Lennon sound alike, has the cutest smile. They are a new favorite band. Okay back to my seat for the Zutons.
They rock the house again. Not sure what to say about them this time. But my first impression at the Killers was that they were totally incredible for me not having heard of them before. Anyway they announce that they will be signing stuff after the set. Check. I go back to the merch table and they tell me downstairs and out the double doors, security will take me. What? Outside? I guess it's some hair brained Sony idea. So I go and wait for a security guard to take me out the same doors I came in earlier that night and down the sidewalk to a gated holding area type thing. I felt so special. Not. I've been contaminated. That's what they call it when people leave and try to get back in because some contaminant could find it's way into the club. They didn't want to do it this way but that's how it ended up. I'm afraid I'm not making sense either. We wait what seems like an eternity. I keep telling the people around me that I hope we don't miss Keane. Turns out the guy didn't have enough Sharpies. What? Not enough Sharpies for an autograph session? You should be fired. Everyone was really nice and some even wrote a book. I told Abi (sax) that I wish I had half of her energy. Oh thank you but I only have it when I'm on stage. OK. I don't feel so bad now. David (singer/guitar) told me I was very professional referring to the fact that I flipped the cd insert around so he only had to open it. I had a good teacher. He also marked on the jewel case with his new Sharpie. Luckily I didn't have to wait too long for another security guard to take me back inside the club. Good thing, Keane's intro music was starting. Back to my bench. See, it came in handy.
Whoever thinks a drum and piano band can't rock should be KO'd. They were totally amazing. Mom had trouble watching Tim (piano). He's acting like a retard. Why can't he just play? Mom, he's just rocking out. It's a little difficult to do that behind a piano. I wasn't really paying attention to him. I was watching Tom (singer). I love how he holds the mic stand and shakes his butt. He has a really nice voice. Some girl yells, I want to have your baby! OK. I guess that was directed at everyone. I think they played the whole album plus a few new ones and a cover. I'm not positive Alamond (sp?) was a cover but it seems like I've heard it before. Oh poo. It's over. Some shows I can't wait for the end but this was so good. I'm glad their first time in Florida was so awesome. I hope they'll be back.
We got a HOB Feb. flyer. Wow another free Brush-up! I had to check out my new cds for the drive home. I'm tired. But still thinking this was one of the best. Every band was so good. It comes close to the Val/Hi-Fi/Butch tour.
